Dvd won't play in dvd player at all, just the computer??

Hi all, here's my issue and please forgive me if I didn't post the log properly, it's my first time. I used the "split" feature in dvdfab 7.0.7.0 and the finished dvd's won't play in my dvd player or even my xbox 360. It will play in my computer. I am using the brand HP dvd-r 16x. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

Hi, I'm pretty sure you are not in need of forgiveness...

First off, no offense, but you're using crap media
CMC is a notoriously inferior media for video archiving.
Having said this, your burner, your media and VSO (Fab's default burn engine) are not getting along with one another at all.

You're also burning too fast with the CMC crap media.

Please pick up some quality media.
Taiyo Yuden is the best choice, but you'll have to purchase online.
Verbatim has always been top shelf, but there's a quality issue with some verbs now.
Look for the AZO dye symbol/name on the wrapper.
    This is the good stuff.

Please switch burn engines to Img. It's free and the best burn engine on the planet.
Here's a video tutorial that is excellent and should do it for you.

Setting Up ImgBurn and DVDab to work together

You can try again with the CMC stuff, but use Img and burn at 4X.
And please do yourself a huge favor and purchase some quality media as described above.

Also, are you sure your standalone player can play -R media?
I'm pretty sure your XBox can though, so this is unlikely to be the problem.
    I dunno for sure

Is this a continuation of the problem you were having in February or something new?

Have you tried burning at 4X instead of your max of 8X?

        Hi renzandjo and welcome
First the media you are using is crap sorry
Consider getting some Taiyo Yuden DVD-R or Verbatim DVD-R
Also try slowing down your burn speed to 4x and I would also suggest Using ImgBurn as your burn engine you will find a tutorial on how to set it up here http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=33
        Try this and post back

        Sorry guys didn't see you

Thanks for all the helpful info. I will def. buy some good media. Now, how do I change my burn speed to a lower speed?

I believe you'll benefit hugely by using Img.
Take the time to set up Automatic Write Speed feature in Img.
                  It's time well spent.

The thread I linked above will walk you through the process.
Just remember to select "Recommended" in Fab, but only use this selection if you set up the Auto Write Speed option

You'll find all your configuration choices including burn speed in Common Settings.
Click on the white check mark icon (in the green circle) top right of the opening screen
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I haven't set up imageburn yet, but I am planning on it. Just lowering the write speed and I tried some +r blank dvd's I had laying around, as oppossed to the -r and it worked! I really appreciate the help.

I have another question now and I did look for the thread but I couldn't find it. The sales person in staples told me there is no difference between -r and +r media?? huh?? is he serious? I seem to have the majority of my issues with -r media and I just became aware of that. Do I really need to know the differene or just which one is best for my computer and will play in my dvd player. How do I find this out? Thanks again!

For starters, read through this link.
                        It's not comprehensive, but it's a start:

It's not so much that one is "better" than the other, but they are...most definitely...different.
Having said this, most (not all) "modern" hardware will handle both +/-R.

Preferences or "better" compatibility is yet another topic.
Bitsetting (changing the booktype) from DVD+R to DVD-ROM will confer the greatest overall compatibility.
Still, with this stuff there's no guarantee.
(BTW, I use +R media exclusively)

What +R media are you using?
Please post the burn log with the successful +R burn
