    Problem burning files to media

Let me take a minute to thank the moderators and the experienced contributors for there time and guidance.

I have been through about 10 DL Disk burning from Hard Drive to Media. Ive burned the first disc successfully, but it was not a DL disk. Since then, all duds.

I have tried on my laptop as well as my desktop. I have tried burning from ISO and from VOB file. I have tried burning from DVDFab and then installed IMG Burn. I have tried with several different movies. I have updated the firmware on the desktop DVD RW Drive. I have tried burning on very speed 2.4, 4, 6, and 8X.

The burn completion i get before I get an error vary between 5 % and 27%.

    Media:

    SONY DVD+R DL 8.5 G 2.4-8X

    Desktop:

I am on Vista 64 bit Service Pack on a Dell Studio XPS 435MT. Intel Core i7 @ 2.93 GHZ, 8 G RAM

    I have dual DVD drives:

    R only: TSST corp DVD-ROM TS-H353B
    RW: an LG (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GH30N)

The only thing that seems odd to me is that when I am burning, both IMG Burn and DVDFab, it show the destination as Drive E, although my RW dive is drive F. It has the right drive name though, just the wrong location.

Below are a copy the error message and IMG Burn log.

Please help me get on the right path. Thanks, Patrick

have you tried switching the drives around for source and target? I ask because you said DVDFab shows the destination as the wrong drive letter. Also have you tried just using the LG drive as the reader and the burner? COuld you as well read what is listed below and post all info asked to your next post reply to this thread

    Help Us Help You

If you are posting about an operational problem with one of the DVDFab products, you will improve the speed and accuracy of the response by providing some information in the very first post that will probably be needed.

First, make note of any error codes or messages that appear in popup boxes and put them in your post. Information on error codes that appear in the DVDFab UI are captured in one of the logs we request below.

DVDFab keeps logs of its activities that supply basic system information and can help pinpoint where and when an error happened and help pinpoint the cause. The default location for these logs on most Windows systems is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\your username\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

The logs are simple text files that can be opened with Windows Notepad if you want to read them. If the size exceeds the forum’s attachment size limit, you may need to delete older entries or copy and paste the relevant ones into a new file. The log files can be attached to a post using the "Manage Attachments" button below the editing box.

dvdfab_burn_vso.log Attach for all problems. The entries are time stamped with the most recent at the top.

dvdfab_burn_imgburn.log Attach if you have ImgBurn set as the burning engine and the problem concerns disc burning. Time stamped with the most recent at the bottom.

dvdfab_process.log Attach if DVDFab crashes and the crash report window does not come up or complete correctly or if internal error codes appear in the DVDFab window (“Task Failed…”). Time stamped, most recent at the bottom.

dvdfab_internal.log Attach for all problems. Time stamped, most recent at the bottom. Please edit to include only the most recent or relevant log session.

    Other Information:

Depending on the nature of the problem, it can help to know:
If this happens with all discs or just one
    Your operating system/CPU/memory configuration
If you are using external hard drives or optical drives
If you have made any recent changes to your OS or system hardware
If you have other DVD or BD software installed, particularly if recently added.

Posts with all the requested information will be answered first.

          Hey AGJ,

I was trying to post the log, i was havin a little difficulty and had to split it.

Switching around the drives...when I burn from the hard drive, it only gives me one option of target; Ethe LG Drive)...which as you know is actually F:, and the source is the ISO file I have on my hard drive. Are you saying there is a way to correct that, and if so how? Or are you suggesting making the DVD Drive as the source and the ISO the target?

I am trying using the LG for the rip to the hard drive AND the burn to the media, which I have not tried yet.

          Thanks

Sorry I read your first post wrong and thought you was using a DVD as source. So no need to try what I suggested as you was doing it correctly by using the burner as target. It seems that the file you are trying not iso file but actually mds file and that could be why you get the error

Yeah. I set the target as the ISO, that MDS file is one that IMG burn creates if you try to create an ISO directly from IMG burn. It creates the ISO, along with that mds file. It then will switch to the mds if you target the ISO...

I get the same errors without that step, if I create the ISO from DVDFab. That one time i was just trying something different.

Are all iso saved to desktop? If they are maybe save to documents and give that a try. Also have you tried to Uninstall your DVD drives using device manager and tyhen reboot and let windows install them again to see if the drive letter would be seen correctly with DVDFab. Another thing you can try is different media as the Sony "MBI" you using not really good media for DL blank but not sure if that the problem

                      Hi milkdog
Along with the advise already given open Fab click the > Write > and check set book type to DVD-Rom, restart Fab .
Also Gummigutta has given you a link to your drives Firmware update.
Also your E: Drive is your LG drive which is your burner, your F: Drive is a DVD-Rom, not a burner
Your F: Drive Samsung TS-H353B also has a firmware update you will find it here
NOTE: if you do not know how to flash your drive do not do it, it will render your drive useless.
Give these a try and post back

Thanks for the responses. The issue with the dual drives is they were labled wrong, when I would try to burn it would have the LG listed as F: when it was E:. I unistalled both last night with device manager and rebooted, and that took care of that problem, but still not the burn problem

I updated my firmware earlier on in this process, so that part is ok. Just tried burning again with the DVD Rom checked in Write, but still just burned a dud. I actually get one good burn out of about 10 last night, so I'm thinking my drive cant be broken...and I have just started doing this, even though the machine is about a year old, the drive hasnt been used that much. I'm going to get another sleeve of DVD's today, Verbatim, and see if that changes anything...unless I get anymore ideas from you guys until then.

Below is a log of the last few failures:

Have you tried to burn with Verbatims?

No...not yet. I'm going to try to get some today. I'm burning Sony's right now.

Well it seems uninstalling the DVD drives and then letting windows install on reboot fixed the invalid address for write you was getting at the beginning. Now you are getting a failed burn which would probably be the media you using as they sony but with another company Media ID and that is MBI and they are notorious for junk blank media. Try Verbatim check the box to make sure it says "Made in Singapore" as well as they are the best DL media around

                              EDIT:
Also you may want to install SP2 for Vista as DVDFab is tested and updated on Computers using the latest updates
