    Newbie question

I down loaded the free version (v 7 something) of DVD Fab copy.
I was able to sucessfully make a copy that was playable on a DVD player And
on a portable digital media player (using the DVD to mobile & MP4 setting).
So now I am wondering - do I really need the DVD ripper program?

And is there a chart that compares DVD Copy vs DVD Ripper?

The uses and functionality are all listed on the new website @

Don't let the word "Ripper" fool you cause it is actually a conversion program it was called DVD to Mobile

Well - was looking for something like chart that shows the features of each.

It seems to me, these 2 programs are very similar.

They are not similar at all.

Have a read of this thread, it spells out the functionality but as Stormjumper pointed out to you earlier, DVD to DVD has now been renamed DVD Copy & DVD to Mobile has been renamed to DVD Ripper in Version 8 and the DVD Ripper is now a standalone product where previously you had to purchase DVD to DVD first.

To reiterate, you will be unable to produce an MP4 with DVD Copy.

Download the latest beta and try out a fully functioning version for 30 days.

I am going to see if I run trials of both.

Oh and on DVD FAb copy I have a mp4 output.

update- just tried to download DVD Ripper & Copy- Ripper is on my desktop as DVDFab8002 and DVD Copy is DVDFab8002(2)

Hmm I think I see why one of the downloads thought it was a duplicate.
Here is a screen shot of DVD Copy (first one)

Then a screen shot of DVD Ripper (2nd) :

They both have similar options - including Blue ray - and I thought that was a separate program?

The download contains A 30 day FREE trial of ALL the products which are integrated in one user interface.

Well explains more why I was confused.

And then how does one get a feel of a product?

When you install DVDFab and use the 30 day trial you should get a very good feel of the product and all the options/programs within that time period

Yes, but is it not hard to compare the 2 products, when they are merged into one trial period?

Not really because you can just make a DVD with a DVD and give those different settings a try and as well try out the Ripper to convert to your mobile device.

Will DVD Ripper also decrypt a DVD?

I see that is one of the features of DVD Copy, but do not see decrypt as a feature in Ripper.

No, only DVDFab DVD Copy, DVDFab Blu-ray Copy and the freeware DVDFab HD Decrypter are "rippers".
Passkey also has decrypting capability, but is a horse of another color.

Thanks- so thats why my first attempt worked (was using dvd Copy) and was able to play on a 'mobile' device. All along I thought I needed Ripper.
