How to get BEST copy of DVD?

Looking for advise on getting the BEST picture quality from a standard DVD to stream. Have been doing movie only ISO copies with some luck.
Will get some movies with artifacts in them and others turn out ok.
How does everyone else make copies from standard DVD's for media steaming?

This question is too generalised as it entirely depends on what you are using to play them and the capabilities of your network/UPnP server.

A good start point is MKV.H264.Audiocopy at 1500 bitrate & vary the bitrate until you are happy.

Is there storage size limitation? If not, best quality you will get from uncompressed content. There are several options: (1) Copy your DVD to ISO. You will get complete copy of you DVD with all extras. (2) You can extract uncompressed "main movie" only and also have it as an ISO. (3) My favorite - MKV. Using "remux" option you will preserve original uncompressed content.
However, before you copying and/or converting your content, make sure that your mediaplayer can handle it.

That's exactly what I use now...uncompressed main movie ISO copy with audio. In some of the videos, I get artifacts when in a dark area of the picture..(black background). Thought there would be a higher quality copy way then ISO (get as close to BD quality as possible).

If you're using uncompressed movie ISO copies, then that is the BEST you will ever get--an exact duplicate of your source. You cannot get any better video quality than your original source. ISO is just a 'container' for the DVD files and should not impact video quality at all. The artifacts you're experiencing are most likely due to the design issues--either hardware and/or software--with your media player. [Edit] Check for and update the firmware of your media player for bug fixes and improved implementations. [/Edit]
