    Won't open

    Ever since the DVDFAB 8 upgrade(8022) was introduced I cannot get it to open unless I right click the icon. I cannot open the program! The program appears (right click), but it doesn’t respond. I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this, but nothing seems to rectify this problem. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve deleted the file and started from scratch. I even downloaded the beta 8023. NOTHING! I can still use 7070.
    HELP!

    I now get a message that says "missing or corrupted files.
    Please re-install DVDFAB.
    I've done this quite a few times.

      Hi LOWBONE
      Please uninstall Fab and use a good registry cleaner like CCleaner and clean the registry of Fab and reinstall.

      You need to do a clean uninstall of DVDFab8 because sometimes programs can get files that become corrupt. You can uninstall DVDFab with the uninstall program. Open My Computer and go to c:\Program Files (OR) wherever you installed DVDFab, delete the "DVDFab" folder. Open "c:\WINDOWS \ PREFETCH" clean all the relevant ".pf " files with DVDFab. Then restart computer and check if there are some related files left, if does, please delete them.
      Hope this helps

        Will try again utilizing the steps you outlined.. Thanks. I've uninstalled DVDFAB 8 and used the uninstall "button" quite a number of times, but perhaps there are some corrupt files lingering on my computer.
        Thanks................Here I go.

          If you have not done so, please do the following:
          Download the installer, then close it (do not open and run).
          Right click on the installer as be certain to run as administrator.

          What OS are you running?

            Save problem and now resolved

            Here's what I did to fix the EXACT same problem on my system:

            I created a new Windows Vista User account to test if there was a problem with my user current profile. Sure enough, the DVDFab v8.0.2.9 software opened without error under the new profile.

            I started comparing the two profile directories in C:\Users (Vista) to see what was different. There is a folder in my bad profile as follows C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\DVDFab\V8 that isn't in my good profile. There is a single file named "uictl_customize.xml", so I renamed it to "OLD-uictl_customize.xml" and tried running the software again under my orig profile. This time, the software opened without any errors!!!!

            Upon customizing my UI again, a new version of the above XML file was created and the software still opens properly.

            I compared the old and new XML files and the OLD is not properly ended:
            - NOTE: All lines prior to <task name="flv" are exactly the same.
            OLD:
            <task name="flv" image_idx="16" show_task="1" used_time

            NEW:
            <task name="flv" image_idx="16" show_task="1" used_times="0" device="flv" show_text="to FLV" tip="Convert video file to FLV file."/>
            <task name="3gp" image_idx="17" show_task="1" used_times="0" device="3gp" show_text="to 3GP" tip="Convert video file to 3GP file."/>
            <task name="audio" image_idx="31" show_task="1" used_times="0" device="audio" show_text="Audio" tip="Extract audio from video file."/>
            </pane>
            </dvdfab>

            -----
            I hope this helps you resolve your issue. Glad it fixed mine!!!
