XBOX 360 WMV with 5.1 Audio issue

This other thread was started and relayed the issue for PS3 and MP4 with 5.1 audio.

The same issue is in the XBOX 360 WMV with 5.1 audio conversion.

I posted a reply in the other thread, and we can use the other thread to continue the conversation... but I wanted to create a thread with the 360 title so it is known for that platform as well.

Did you follow the link in my first post?

I believe that should sum it up... if you want me to copy and paste, I can do that, but it seems pretty silly and redundant.

Actually, I just revisited that thread and it's been closed by a moderator because apparently the XBOX WMV people hijacked it. So maybe I will copy and paste from there to this thread so others can chime in on topic. There were plenty of others on that thread that are experiencing the same problem. Hopefully they see this thread and post their issues here pertaining to WMV 5.1 issues so the developers get the hint.

This is my original post in a thread on PS3 5.1 issues that seem to be identical to my, and others, WMV 5.1 issues.

This is happening with the XBOX 360 conversion too. 5.1 audio results in the same issue of the center channel audio being in the right front channel. I am using the latest version as of 11/11/2009. I have no issue of crackling audio... it's crystal clear... just wrong.

Likewise, Dolby ProLogic II works well enough for the 360 conversions too... but it's nothing like discreet 5.1 audio streams. I paid good money for this software, and love it as well, but I want the features to work properly. I also don't want to have to convert these movies later down the road when this feature starts working.

What is a timeframe to have this issue fixed?? On 9/17/2009, "ting" said this doen't sound like a big deal to fix, yet here we are in November with a recent release and it is still an issue.

For now, unfortunately, I will be looking for an alternative solution. :-(

One other thing, it would be great if DVDFab could be more like AnyDVD in the sense that AnyDVD can be automated more easily, and even call other external applications. I know that DVDFab is MUCH more feature rich and offers things that AnyDVD doesn't have, but I am only talking about being able to automate DVDFab more, like have it run as a service so it can do things automatically upon a DVD being inserted.

Thanks for a great product... let's get this figured out and fixed so I can continue to use it! :-)

With the latest release the command line interface is feature rich. I am trying it out now but I can't envision anything you can't boil down to a little code and a single button push.

Just going to add to this thread as well.

Since the PS3 5.1 audio thread was closed (with still no official response) I thought I would add that WMV is my prefered medium as well. I guess it can't hurt to ask again. Any word on this?

St00pidChicken I only help those who have started a thread of there own instead of using another members thread. Which is why I posted my first reply to this thread

                  Confirmed WMA10 + 5.1 audio issue + xbox 360

Heya, first post from a newbie

Wanted to confirm that I'm seeing 5.1 center channel audio shifted to the Front Right channel when encoding for xbox 360 using wma10 profile w/ 5.1 audio selected.

I'm currently using 6.2.0.5 on Windows 7 to do the encoding.

                    hi,

I must say "I am sorry" first, sorry for this problem boring your's so long time.

I am working at solve this problem, current I need some information about this.

                    1. what is your source, DVD or file ?
                    2. what is your source audio track, ac3 or dts ?

because I have not XBOX360, so I will test it in PS3 first.

looks the major problem is the centeral channel and right channel position is wrong, any problem about other problem, if this is wrong, left-surround , right-surround and lfe is correct ?

                    thanks.

                      1) For me, I'm testing a DVD source (Star Wars: The Clone Wars).

                      2) I believe the audio track is ac3.

You're right, the main issue I've observed is center channel being shifted to Front Right. I've not noticed any other audio issues, though I will be getting a friend to loan me a diagnostic DVD to rip that may help further debug the issues.

If the fix makes it's way into a beta build, I'd be happy to help test it out for other xbox users.

                        Ting:

I tested this yesterday with the latest beta version 6.2.1.0 with the disc Finding Nemo R1.

I used the main movie rip feature to rip just the THX Sample where the cow flies around the screen (since it is 1) short and 2) provides discrete sound in each channel. It is AC3 audio. I ripped it first to hard disk via the main movie feature, then used DVD to movie to convert it from the hard drive.

                        I did 2 rips:

                        1) with generic.xvid.audiocopy, using default settings.. This one works fine as expected.

                        2) with xbox.360.wmv.wmv10, using default settings. This one puts the front channel into the right channel (as far as I can hear) and seems to leave out the left rear channel entirely.

I'm not sure of the legalities, but I assume I can't just email these to you (if I can, let me know). But if you can find a thx sample to rip or have that disc, it might be an easy way to test. Usually early Pixar dvds and other "THX Certified" DVDs will have that short "trailer". On Nemo, it's the second title listed in DVDFab.

Thanks for looking into this! Looks like several of us are eagerly awaiting the results.

                            WMV10 Center to Right

On all of my WMV10 rips I have this exact problem. 30 Rock seasons 1 & 2, Coraline, Inglourious Basterds, and others using the default audio track (usually AC3 5.1).

This problem goes back even before the current version as I've been using it off and on for most of the year. I first noticed it on 30 Rock that I ripped in June or so. Originally I thought it was my hardware, but the channel swap happens during playback on all of my various hardware (Archos 5A, Xbox360, & PC).

My PS3 won't play the audio on these files, but the video works.

Did anybody get a response from their support besides "try the latest beta"?
