DVD Ripper DVD Ripper Hanging while converting some TV shows

I have season 1 of the original Charlie's Angels. DVDRipper 8.1.0.0 is hanging while converting some of the episodes. Others work just fine.

I have an older version installed on another computer and it works fine.

Are there logs or anything I can supply that would help debug this issue?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi risser,

    1) You can try installing the latest version of DVDFab 8.1.0.3 at http://www.dvdfab.com/download.htm to convert again.

    2) If you still have the same hanging issue, post you internal log file.

    The default location is:

    For Win7 C:\Users\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log
    or Vista C:\Users\User Name\Documents\DVDFab\Log
    or for XP C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

    Thanks.

I just tried the newest version: it didn't work. Here's the results.

      DVDFab 8.1.0.3 (2011/07/04 09:58:58)

      DVDFab 8.1.0.3 (2011/07/04 10:18:02)

      0m 01.85s: option dvd2dvd 1 dvd2mobile 1 bluray2bluray 1 bd2mobile 1 bd23d 1 bd2dvd 1 file2mobile 1 filemover 1
0m 01.85s: Qt Translator file load success
      0m 19.75s: pathplayer enabled
      2m 59.65s:

      ------ begin mobile work(1/1) ------

      2m 59.65s: create config(0)
      2m 59.65s: convert profile(generic.mp4.h264.aac)
      2m 59.74s: dvd title(3) angle(0) chapter(1->3)
      2m 59.74s: stream(480,2,1) stream(128,86019,1)
      2m 59.82s: info: set output video frame_rate(30000/1001)
      3m 01.18s: h264_encode: encode param profile(1) level(31) bitrate(1767)
      12m 32.11s: ------ cancel all mobile work -------
Again, the weird thing is, it will work with some of the shows on the same disc, but not others.

Here's the same episode after I uninstalled 8.1.0.0 and retried again with 8.0.9.2:

      DVDFab 8.0.9.2 (2011/06/30 08:54:05)

      DVDFab 8.0.9.2 (2011/06/30 08:54:11)

      0m 01.15s: option dvd2dvd 1 dvd2mobile 1 bluray2bluray 1 bd2mobile 1 bd23d 1 bd2dvd 1 file2mobile 1 filemover 1
0m 01.15s: Qt Translator file load success
      0m 02.87s: detected dvd
      0m 02.87s: drive F
      0m 02.87s: dvd type 0
      0m 02.87s: volume label
      0m 22.66s: pathplayer enabled
      2m 24.00s:

      ------ begin mobile work(1/1) ------

      2m 24.00s: create config(0)
      2m 24.02s: convert profile(generic.deinterlace1.mp4.h264.aac)
      2m 24.11s: dvd title(3) angle(0) chapter(1->3)
      2m 24.11s: stream(480,2,1) stream(128,86019,1)
      2m 26.93s: info: set output video frame_rate(30000/1001)
      2m 28.10s: h264_encode: encode param profile(1) level(30) bitrate(2400)
      37m 47.72s:

      ------ finish mobile work ------
That doesn't seem like much info. Is there some other log I should be posting?

        Hi risser,
Please Open Fab click the Click the Green √ at top right corner of the DVDFab screen, and open Common Settings > General >A/V Codec, set Video Decoder to Software and set Video Encoder to Software restart Fab and try again.
        Wish you success!

Okay, I checked these and these are all already set to software...

          Also, 'Enable Lightning-Recording' is checked.

Although, 'Disable all GPU' is unchecked.

So, that didn't work. I'm going to check the GPU thing and see if that helps at all...

              Alas, 8.1.0.5 did not work.

Also, changing the GPU checkbox, removing deinterlacing or reducing the bitrate did not work either.

Is there more info I can give you? A debug version I could run?

                Hi risser,

Please rip one of your TV show discs to HDD with DVD Copy, say Full Disc, then relaunch DVDFab, add the movie folder (you just ripped) into DVD Ripper to see if you still meet the hanging issue or not.

                Sincerely,
                --

I (nearly almost) always rip from HDD, actually a NAS. In these cases I have repeatedly ripped from the HDD image, and the same thing happens every time.

In addition, to make sure it wasn't the rip-to-HDD causing the problem, I also tried directly from the DVD, and it hung in exactly the same place.

And, as I mentioned before, it works fine with 8.0.9.2, although, I should view the rip just to make sure there's not some weird blip in it 14% of the way through.

Again, I can try emailing a zipped version of the disc image. Or, I could try copying just that one title to HDD then try ripping from that. If it still fails, I could forward you that image.

                  Thanks,
                  Peter

I created a 'custom' image with just one of the problem titles, then tried ripping from that and it failed.

I can forward it to you if you'd like. It's only 1.4GB uncompressed (though I doubt it would compress further zipped).

                    Please let me know.

Hmmm. Nothing on this? I only ask because I have another issue, which I will be posting about as well.

                        Hi risser,
I'm so sorry for my late reply. The lastest build 8107 QT beta is out, which takes a great improvement. Please try it http://www.dvdfab.com/mlink/download.php?g=DVDFAB_BETA.
                        Wish you success.

I have had this exact same problem on some older stuff. I have tried all the combinations and with the newest 8.1.1.2.

I am having problems with Nash Bridges season 1 (but not 2 or 3), and with Party Down season 1, which I think is a pretty new show.

Currently, I have an install of 8.0.6.8 which WORKS FINE. It will rip these without issue, so it's something that was introduced after that and has never been fixed.

Oh yeah, I forgot, I had this problem already, AND I was able to recreate it, AND I was able to pull a custom folder off and recreate it with that, AND I sent it to the DVDFab team to test with, but I have yet to hear back from anyone.

                            This was six weeks ago:

                            Exact same issue.

This is clearly a problem and I look forward to the DVD Fab team presenting us with a fix soon.

                            Thanks,
                            Peter

This also seems like it's probably the same problem:

This isn't just a fluke guys. Let's get this fixed!
