DVD Ripper Rip loops or freezes creating mp4 output

I don't think a solution is listed here in the forum, but feel free to point me in the right direction if I've missed something.

My paid-for copy of DVDFab 8.1.0.5 is "freezing" or looping while ripping some DVDs to MP4 format. The program is not "hung" in the usual sense, as the elapsed time counter continues to advance and all I have to do to end the program is click on the cancel button. But the ripping process just stops progressing, without issuing any error message. It stops at exactly the same percentage of completion for any given DVD, but the position at which it stops is different for each different DVD used as input. Like some others who have tried to report this problem, I am running on a windows 7 Quadcore with plenty of memory and plenty of hard drive space.

The only unusual thing I've noticed about the DVD Fab progress screen, once it has reached this looping state, is that the "Encoding FPS" counter, which usually counts down while ripping is in process, has disappeared from the screen entirely. Also, the "Time Left" counter is at 00:00:00.

I have identified four different input DVDs to which this happens consistently. Three of these are commercially produced and one is the output of DVD Fab Copy. As an experiment, I tried ripping one of the troublesome DVDs, commercially produced, to AVI instead of MP4. That process completed successfully. I then switched back to MP4 output, and the program just stopped progressing again, exactly as before.

After searching through this forum, I’ve tried to rip these DVDs with Path Player enabled or disabled, and mixing settings for Disabling GPU Codecs and Enabling Lightning Recoding. The end result was the same, with the ripping process going into what looks like a permanent loop with the input disc only partly ripped.

Thanks for trying, but it didn't work. I just tried it with one of the problematic DVDs, making sure that all the subpictures were unchecked. The ripping process behaved the same, reaching a certain percentage of completion and then appearing to enter an infinite loop. I did notice that at that percentage of completion, the Task Time Left counter, which had been steadily going down, suddenly started incrementing. At the same time, the Encoding FPS counter steadily reduced. The Task Time Left counter went to 10's of hours, then to 00:00:00, possibly because it had rolled over to hundreds of hours. The Encoding FPS counter was low at that point, but continued to reduce for a few more seconds, then disappeared from the screen entirely. At that point, the ripping process will never end and never make further progress, although clicking on cancel will end the program.

Please confirm that A/V Settings were all "software" and no subtitles checked. Please post log with that combination.

          Hi JTNola
As my friend IPopov50 suggested please set all options to software and try again, to do this please Open Fab click the Click the Green at top right corner of the DVDFab screen, and open Common Settings > General >A/V Codec, put a check in Disable all GPU codes and make sure they are set to Software, restart Fab and try again.
          Hope this helps

That doesn't seem to have changed anything either. I went into A/V settings, and all the decoding and encoding was already set to "Software". I had the "Disable GPU codes" box checked, probably from my previous testing. So I clicked on the "Default" button, then exited the program and restarted it. The "Disable GPU Codes" box then appeared unchecked and the "Enable Lighting Encoding" box was checked, and all the encoding/decoding types set to "Software".
I made sure that no subpicture was checked, then started the rip. Again, it stopped progressing at the same point as before.

It appears to me that I have tested this both the "Disable GPU Codecs" checked and unchecked, in both cases with all encoding and decoding set to "Software". The results seem to be the same regardless of these settings. I've attached the latest log to my response to Ipopov50. I will do more testing to make sure I've covered all the options specified so far.

That's a really old move, try disabling PathPlayer. Don't forget to set it back to always enabled after.

Tried the latest beta version, and it is as bad or worse. Two of the discs that were causing me problems before won't even open using the beta version - the initial scan of the disc never ends. One of them would open, and the program still goes into a loop. Same behavior if I have Disable GPU checked and Enable lightning encoding unchecked, or the reverse.

90312: I tried disabling the path player, as documented above, without any change in behavior. Perhaps that should be combined with changes in other settings?

This problem remains unsolved. I have now tested the 8.1.0.7 beta version with path player enabled and disabled, in combinations with enabling and disabling GPU Codecs. None of this makes any difference. The ripping process continues to enter a loop at some point in processing certain DVDs into MP4 files. The beta version, unlike the production 8.1.0.5, will never finish the initial opening scan of some of the problem DVDs, although I got it it open one, and that's the one that enters the loop.

It's happening to me too with 8.1.0.7 on certain older WB movies. We are going to have to wait it out I guess.

Well.... I'm glad at least to have a qualified witness. After a quick check, it appears you're right about the age of the movie being a factor: I can rip Mission Impossible 2 with 8.1.0.7, but not Soylent Green, The Andromeda Strain, or Forbidden Planet. I'm afraid I'm not patient enough to "wait it out", and will have to try other software in the short term.

Same issue as JTNola - in my case movie is 'Thomas Misty Island' - trying to get it from DVD to MP4.

On first try without adjusting settings per these posts it got to 50% and then just hung letting PC run overnight.

Tried the suggestions in these posts with two more tries and still no success.

Thank you for the suggestions and tips though.

I guess I could try to .AVI as I did for some of my son's other movies - but I noticed the .AVI quality for Toy Story 3 wasn't that awesome.
