BD Ripper (3D Plus) BD to AVI takes 13 hours!! Help please

Hi, am a newbie so bear with me....purchased BD ripper 2 days ago and the conversion to AVI is taking approx 13 hours! What is the normal time frame?
I have windows XP, am not running anything in backgroud, only selecting main movie. Contacted support and they sugguested:

Please open Common Settings(the green mark button in the right upper areas of the main window)->General->A/V Codec, set both video decoder and encoder as software(or simply check the box of "Disable all GPU codecs for decoding and encoding"), then convert/copy again to see the result.

Please click the round green icon button with a check mark at the right top corner of the DVDFab screen, open "Common Settings" window, click on "write", change the write speed settings for your need, if the max is 8 , usually we suggest you set to 4.

    3. When you copy/rip movie DVDs with DVDFab, please disable all the other background tasks in your windows task manager. Multitasking is therefore a pain while you copy or burn.
I have done this and still taking approx 13 hours.
Appreciate all help you can give Thanks

This sounds appropriate if you have an older machine. Post your PC specs so others can chime in with their results.

Yes but it won't help you!

You are lucky to even to be able to encode on such a machine.

The time is about right for such a clunker.

          Memory

Hi the amount of memory is your main problem. You hard drive is having to work overtime to compensate (VM) and with DVDFAB also constantly reading and writing no wonder it's slow. DVD FAB will use 400MB on average and you only have 114 available... so about 44 MBytes in real world terms before Virtual Memory takes over.

You have 512 installed, so you badly need a memory upgrade. Get yourself a minimum of 1GBytes, 2 is preferable. You’ll not see any benefit going beyond that.

You should shave a few hours off your time, but beyond that your CPU will be your limiting factor.

              Hi woodys306
Adding a little more memory will help your computer run better but, it will not give you much boost in converting.
DDR Memory for you system in all honestly would not be worth spending money on a system that old.
If you have money to spend try going for a cheap bare bones kit and maybe adding a GPU you will be better off in the long run.
