    File extension issue

    Hi there

Nice to see a forum here.

My problem is that since upgrading to 6.06, that whilst dvd to dvd continues to work fine, dvd to mobile copies, but sony media manager does not recognise the file extension, m4v.

Whatever I choose (ipod, generic, psp, etc) the extension is shown as m4v - whereas I think I need mp4 to transfer to my sony NWZ-X1060.

It seems no matter which profile option I choose from the menu (h264, mpeg4, etc), it comes up as m4v.
Does anybody know what the solution is?

    a. What profile are you using?
    b. Rename the file with a .3gp or .mp4 extension

      a. I am using the standard ipod profile, (which worked fine previously), tho as I say I have tried several profiles, and none now work.
      b. I have also tried just renaming the file as you suggest, but that does not work either. Do I need another programme to convert the format from m4v to mp4? (But that would seem to defeat the point somewhat of using dvd fab).

You shouldn't need to do any conversions. I will do a couple of tests today with my Sony W595 although I never use Sony Media Manager, I just copy directly to the phone's memory card.

Sorry mate, I just realised that it is a MP4 player, not a phone...

After looking again at your problem, I think there is something wrong in your Fab installation and I would recommend a full uninstall & delete everything from the C:\Program Files\DVDFab6 directory and do a fresh install.

          Let us know what happens.

I re-installed dvd fab, vers. 6.04 as this was the one that had previously worked, but still no success.

I have since looked around other forums and it seems the problem is with the sony walkman rather than dvd fab. The walkman (whatever model) seems to have a reputation for not recognising formats that it is meant to.

So I need to keep looking and trying various things, as it seems what works for some people's walkman does not work for others.

            Thanks for trying anyway.

              Hi Trev,

The best way to do this is get a file that works on it and find out the details with MediaInfo (download) and post the details here and we may then be able to help you with a custom profile.

              Regards
              Greg

                Thanks Greg

Sounds a good idea, will try this next week when I get some free time.

                  Finally solved mystery

                  Hi GregiBoy

(Been on holiday, hence delay in responding).

I found the sample video files given with the Walkman were .wmv - so looking down the list of DVD Fab mobile devices, the only one listed that seemed to support this extension is ZUNE, which can be played on Microsoft ZUNE (never heard of it, but anyway). Tried it and BINGO -it actually works with the Walkman.

So thanks for all the help.

                  Cheers
                  Trev
