BD Ripper (3D Plus) PS3 'Choppy Video'

Not a new thread but the newly issued 8129 Beta mentioned that the PS3 BD Ripper may have had a fix applied for this (Framerate fixed at 23.976). Sadly, not true The 'choppy video' phenomenon is still there with 8129 but a BD rip of the same clip done with my old and trusted standby 8085, streamed perfectly smoothly with no flaws at all. FYI, I am using CUDA and Software + CUDA for decode and encode --- So developers or moderators, was the fix applied to 8129 supposed to address the 'choppiness' or is this still on the 'to do list'?

    Thanks

      Hi whaleshark ,
Please Open Fab click the Click the Green √ at top right corner of the DVDFab screen, and open Common Settings > General >A/V Codec, select "Disable all GPU codecs for decoding and encoding" and try it again.

        PS3 BD Ripper Choppy Video

Hi Terry - I did as you requested with the same result of 'choppy video' when streamed. The only thing is that the rate of ripping is much slower (approx 24 FPS with Software as opposed to 48 to 50 FPS with GPU - twice as long)

        For information, here are the the main summary points;

        1) When streamed over my 'primary' PS3 which is 'hard wired' to my 1GB internal network, there is no evidence of 'choppy' video with either software or GPU encode/decode

        2) When streamed over my 'Secondary' PS3 which is 'wired through a NETGEAR Powerline adaptor' to my 1GB internal network, the 'choppy' video with either software or GPU encode/decode

        3) Both PS3's are fully updated

        4) It seems that only the first 3 to 5 minutes of the BD rip is subjected to this choppy video - if the 'view' button is used to skip ahead a few minutes, the the streaming is smooth on either software or GPU encode/decode

        5) If the rip is done to MKV and then converted to VOB (using mkv2vob) then the streaming is fine even though the transfer rate is much higher - so it seems to be a PS3 encode/decode problem

        6) Using 8085 is fine - no problems in streaming

        7) I have tried out rips on a friends PS3 streaming system and found the same results - Choppy video on any version after 8085

        8) If the rip is 'copied' to the local PS3 HDD then there is no 'choppy' video on playback but of course, the streaming network is not being used......

        9) Here is the latest logfile

From your description, the problem is the transmission between PS3 and other device, in a word. No issue when copy the rippered files into PS3 HD. I think playing source from other device need a high speed of transmission, which may be the issue why the video is choppy. You may change a high speed transfer line and try it again.

            PS3 BD Ripper Choppy Video

            Terry,

I think you are partially correct because if I 'hard wire' the internal 1 GB network directly to the secondary PS3, then the 'choppy video' disappears and all is well. I have explained this before -

BUT --- This does not explain why a PS3 BD rip of the same BD done with Version 8085 (Pre QT Series) streams perfectly over the present network? It also does not explain why an MKV file with a much higher indicated transmission rate streams perfectly

Why does 8085 stream perfectly and 8129 (and all other qt series versions) suffer from the 'choppy video' when a PS3 rip is done?

I am planning to hard wire the secondary PS3 but from an interest point of view I really would like to know why 8085 is okay and other versions are not.

Thank you for taking an interest in this
