BD Ripper (3D Plus) Multi channel audio for iPad setting?

    Hello,

Tried searching for an answer but couldn't find anything.

I'm using BD Ripper with the iPad setting and thought I was getting multi channel audio into the output file but I've just realized that everything gets encoded in stereo. Is there a way to get BD ripper with the iPad setting to rip multi channel output?

I use Plex & Boxee on a Mac Mini hooked up to a plasma tv by the way. I do DVD rips with other software and I get 5.1 surround but can't seem to get it with Blu-rays ripped via BD ripper. Is there some kind of passthrough setting I'm not seeing?

    Thanks

    Hi mackraken,
Please use ProfileEditor to creat a new profile about ipad with 5.1 surround.
    Enjoy yourself.

      Hey Mackraken,

Try the "Apple TV 2_AC-3 5.1 DD" profile that I uploaded today. Although it won't work on my iPad since iPad's only support 2 channel stereo, it sounds like your TV decodes AC-3 5.1 surround sound so it should work for you.

Surely there is a way to encode 5.1 audio that the ipad will play. Any movie purchased on itunes will play on the ipad and be decoded in 5.1 if streamed to the AppleTV. I'd like to be able to watch my DVDFab ripped movies on my ipad and my AppleTV. Currently, I can only get both if ripped in 2-channel audio. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

          Hey Vibesnrh,

I know what your talking about. DVDfab does not have that ability yet.

I have emailed Sunny and Signals about this and have been told that it has been elevated to the developers to work on. When they get to it is anybody's guess. I've been told that they are working on improvements to DVDfab which takes priority but they will get to it.

The reason why iTunes movies play in 5.1 surround sound or more on your Apple Tv 2 and in 2 channel stereo on your iPad is that they are encoded with 2 audio tracks. One in AAC 2 channel Dolby Digital and one in AC-3 passthru that passes thru whatever surround sound that is encoded in the movie.

Until DVDfab developers updates the profile editor so that it has the ability to encode two audio tracks, there is no way to get both in one m4v file. The best I could come up with is to use the Aple TV 2 5.1 surround sound profile I uploaded to create a m4v file. It will play in 5.1 surround sound on your Apple TV 2. To play the file on your iPad, you will need to use a iPad app called Air Video and use the "Play with live conversion" option. It will then play on the iPad.

          Hope this answered your questions.

I would love to know as well, I am trying to come up with a workflow that will allow me to start ripping Bluray with my iMac (Lion, soon Mountain Lion upon release), with hard subtitles as needed, and multiple audio tracks (5.1 & 2 channel) for the apple tv 3 iPad 3rd gen combo.

Note that I already purchased the ripper as part of a lifetime subscription package deal, but so far have not used it due to this issue.

I currently use another popular program to convert DVD to M4V, as it encodes both audio streams (with hard subs it auto detects) to allow playback on both the apple tv & iPad. The other program can't search and hardsub bluray subtitles in the same manor however, so I need a new solution for that medium.

It's great to see that this update includes an Apple Tv profile. However, it looks like it's only available for the DVD ripper. I have Both the DVD and Blu-ray ripper and I primarily use my Apple Tv to view my movies. (I also usse my Ipad 2) I'm backing up my extensive collection to keep them new and safe (and out of the reach of my 2 year old) and I'm disappointed to see that everything is ripping in stereo when useing the Ipad profile in the blu-ray ripper. Even when I use the multi channel audio it still only comes out in stereo. I own an Apple Tv 3 (the new one that supports 1080p) and it also supports 5.1 audio. Will DVDFab create an Apple Tv profile for the blu-ray ripper??? Cause that would be awesome!!!

Any update on this issue? I NEED dual audio to be able to move between multiple different iOS devices. It has been nearly a year since I first asked about this...
