DVD Ripper help with what setting to select

i want to convert a dvd to a format that will give me good all round performace playable on

a hd ready tv (via ps3)
    a ipad
    laptop (using vlc media player)

i'm not too format savvy and was thinking of using either mp4 or apple tv. is apple tv2 likely to be supported soon? if so should i wait? once the format is selected, do i need to tweak anything via the 'edit' button?

many thanks to all that help

generic mp4.h264.aac will do the trick. just set the bit rate high enough to get the bit/pixel up to .2 or higher and the audio to stereo. Plays on all three mentioned.

click the edit button and you'll see both of these selections. bit rate center left and audio bottom left.

ok i have selected 'generic' from the fab main menu. then clicked 'edit' opens a new window. select 'generic mp4.h264.aac' from the drop down arrow. centre left i have 'fixed bitrate' which shows 1458kbps. what do i change the bitrate figure to? audio channel is default to 'mono' so that needs changing to 'stereo' correct?

Increase the the bit rate until the bit/pixel is grater than .2 usually 1500-1800 will do the trick. Yeah, change to stereo and I set the bit rate to 160. Take a look at the attachment:

many thanks for the screenshot, helps a great deal. noticed at the top next to device you have 'mp4' rather than 'generic' though?

Be advised that there is an issue with the profile and on some movies it will slow down and stop. At least here in R1, let us know if it happens to you.
