BD Ripper (3D Plus) Serious BR Ripper issues

When using BR Ripper to rip blu rays to MKV files of approx 9GB a couple of things happen. 1) the CPU usage hits 100% and the top of my wallpaper screen pixilates. 2) when I play back the MKVs on VLC, Diceplayer or BSplayer I get a picture that breaks in half and pulses with strange colours. Something's obviously going wrong. Any advice?

I have a Acer aspire lap top, i5 processor and 1GB dedicated ATI graphics card.
