DVD Ripper DVD ripping for home network and a PS3?

Hi, this is my first post here on this forum so go easy on me.

I have taken backup of my DVD's through DVD copy in DVDFab
to store them on a external HDD connected to an USB on my
router to stream them to my family's computers and my PS3
and it worked great but then I found out that on my PS3 I have
to choose individual vob files to play but not the whole directory.
So I bought the DVD Ripper to rip the movies but I have no idea
what is the best settings to use to get the best quality out of my
DVD collection to use on my PS3 and my network.
I've tried out a few movies with different settings, both in mp4 &
avi formats, but then I run the files on my computer and my PS3
when finished ripping and the movies play but lags and doesn't
    play smoothly.

So question is what format and settings would be the best to get
the most out of my movies?

    Thanks
