    DVD Ripper Windows Media Player

    Hi there,

I can rip blu rays and play the associated mkv files fine in Windows Media Player, but DVD rips (avi format) won't play - same thing in Div-X player. They open but it just sits there. I managed to get them to work in WMP Classic. Why is this?

    Thanks!

      Hi Terry,

Thanks. I just used the standard AVI profile. I am liaising with technical support as well and submitted the logs to them - they were happy with the logs as the rip process was successful. But here it is anyway.

It's a issue of WMP. Please try another player, such as VLC. Thanks.

What Codec pack if any is installed. I've had a good experience with the SHARKY codec (see http://shark007.net/) packs for Windows, never had a problem with playback of different formats once the Sharky codecs are installed.

              Hi cinder
Along with the advice from terry5 about VLC, I my self like MPC found here http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/downloads/ or the DVD Fab media player found here http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=19364
VLC, MPC, and the DVD Fab player have their own codes , so there is no need to install additional code packs.
              Hope this helps

Thanks guys, sorry I've been away.
I do like WMP and it's not given me any problems til now.
What I might do is move the file over to my laptop and try playing with WMP to determine if it is a problem on the PC such as codecs as others have suggested.
