Just need good settings for streaming video

    Hi,

I'm just wanting advice on good general profile setting to take DVDs and make them a file that can be streamed to netgear eva8000 box and just watched on computer screen... I want to make the movie smaller than the normal 4gb range so more will fit on my dvr computer. But don;t want to make quality and sound poor either... Also need to know if volume will need boosting etc.

There are just sooo many setting in the generic conversion profile.

    Hi Greg,

If I were you, I would start with the generic.avi.xvid.audiocopy profile, set AC3/5.1 audio selected, 2 pass encoding set at 1100 video bitrate and a resolution close to the original DVD (PAL 720 x XXX, NTSC 704 x XXX) and see whether you are happy with the result.

THis works perfectly for me on my Ziova CS615 which is similar to the EVA8000 hooked up to a 52" Samsung HDTV.

For high-motion actions movies (such as Matrix, etc) I do bump the video bitrate up to around 1500.

    Hope this helps.
