DVD Ripper invalid sample description error

I have DVD folders I am trying to convert to ipad/apple format. These are folders I ripped a while ago, where I didnt save to .iso. I load them into ripper, and set the output for ipad (apple TV, ipad4, doesn't matter) and rip without error. I cannot load these into iTunes. When opening with QuickTime, I get the "invalid sample description error" error. These are m4v files. I read to rename them to 3gp? and that didn't work either... any thoughts?

    Thanks

What steps are you doing? I just tried a movie from a folder on he HDD and the m4v went right into iTunes and played. Give us your step by step and we'll figure this out.

I've done this a bunch of times, without problem myself.

I select Ripper, add the file by selecting the root folder.
prompt says, appears as this is a dvd, do you wish to import, i click yes.
I select ipad from the output choice.
(originally) I changed the audio to 128k (as the last few direct DVD rips the audio was terrible)
Change the filename to remove the title.rip
      click start
when finished, tried importing into iTunes. got nothing in return.
Tried to open with QuickTime and got the -1024 error in this topic title.

second, I have tried selecting ipad4 and it did the same thing

lately, I clicked the EDIT button and selected 16:9 (which changed the aspect and resolution) then back to 4:3 and that rip was successful.

I tried another movie (3rd attempt) and only selected different audio. That seemed to maybe work.

It seems that I have to EDIT the video to ensure the resolution is accurate?
Maybe my 'default' ipad setting is hosed up (I'm sure I probably did it) but selecting default doesnt return OOB default values.

Normally I drop a disk, select copy Main Movie and output ipad and never have a problem. These DVD folders seem to have the better of me, or the old method I used to rip them before using .iso was incorrect.

Thank you for any assistance or insight you can provide

Start by eliminating the folder as the problem by going straight from the disc or rip a DVD to a folder and try that folder. Copy to the folder using DVDFab, it may be the structure from the old method?

I think it may be related to the number of channels. Using the profile builder (you can load a file into the editor that is known to work) I see my other files are stereo, and this time i was choosing ProLogic. I have another rip rolling, will let you know how it goes. Early last week I ripped two other movies, one DVD and one BR using the same ol profile (as every other rip I have done) and the audio suddenly sounds muffled/tinny (verified it was the movies, not audio gear) which lead me to trying new audio settings...

yes, it was the audio settings. using anything greater then stereo caused the error. I even upped the rate to 196k and it works fine. No Dolby or Prologic!

            thanks for your time
