BD Ripper (3D Plus) Any way to set max bitrate for h.264 encodes?

Is there any way to set the maximum bitrate when using Blu-ray ripper to convert to h.264 (mp4 or mkv)? I noticed that when I set the "fixed bitrate" to 12,000 in the encode settings for an mkv file, my max bitrate ends up being 43,000. With an mp4 set to 12,000, the max bitrate ends up at a whopping 75,000. Both of these seem unusually high to me, and result in both larger file sizes than necessary, and files that take more processing power to decode.

Note that I'm starting with the mkv.h264.ac3 and mp4.h264.ac3 profiles and using 2-pass.

    Thanks,

    Larry

The problem may be 2 pass, I just tried a BR @ 12000 single pass and it came out 12.4, I was going to try 2 pass but it was going to take too long. Try 1 pass, at that bit rate you're not gaining anything anyway.

Unfortunately, 1-pass isn't really an option for me -- even if it's a small difference, I still need the extra quality I can get with 2-pass. That said, it's not the average bitrate that's a problem -- it's the max bitrate. My average ends up around 12K as well, but the max is over 40K for mkv h.264 files.

Is there some setting that I'm not aware of that allows me to set a maximum? If not, this is something that DVDFab might want to consider adding. Maximum bitrate is a normal setting with most VBR h.264 encoders. I would also suggest changing "fixed bitrate" to "average bitrate" since "fixed" makes it sound like CBR, which it is not (it's a VBR encode.)

      Thanks again,

      Larry
