DVD Ripper Upconvert DVD?

Hi,

Is there any generally accepted wisdom around converting DVDs (480 lines) to ipad or appleTV? Should I always keep 480 lines for the output file and let the device upconvert or would DVD ripper have a better upconvert algorithm? I expect this has been asked many times but I can't seem to find a clear answer.

Opinions may vary on this but mine is it is always better to let the device do the up-converting.

That is my advice also. Most devices & TV's have upconverting algorithms built in and give by far the best results.

The old saying "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" is a very apt response to this question.
