BD Ripper (3D Plus) Recommended Blu-Ray Drive for Laptop

Have tried to rip 2 disks that are in very good shape, 'Brave' and 'The Secret World of Arrietty'. Both gave read errors and both wound up with some scrambled video and audio out of syc. Tried UJ240, then Sony opti drive which was worse. Both are dated 2011.

What is the best laptop drive for reading Blu Ray disks? Is there then need for firmware update?

ALL laptop drives are suspect. You are far better off with an external USB powered drive if problems persist on laptops.

IMHO, Laptops altogether are always suspects when problems occur ripping and transcoding. With the exception of some very high end ones, they are just not engineered for this type of task.
