    DVD Ripper Small audio-hickups

I've started ripping our kids DVD collection and am running in a problem where the output always has a couple of small hickups in the audio. It's almost as if a frame is skipped or something like that.

The weird thing is that the hickups always happen at the same place, regardless of the output format but even regardless of whether I use my DVD-writer or DVD-reader.

Some example DVDs: Cars 1/2, Toy Story 1/2/3, Planes, etc..etc..

Small update: I tried to rip with a different audio-track (i.e. different language) and the hickups still happen at the same time.

      Problem with the disk?

Sounds like there is a problem on the disk, I can't see how the ripper would this in such an isolated and predictable way

This is a copy protection you find on newer Disney and Pixtar releases caused by overlapping frames in the audio track as reported by tsmuxer a free program that you can use to delete the overlapping frames and restore the audio tracks.Do a search on the forum for tsmuxer and you will find the link to the program and directions. Also works on the 3d versions of these movies and fixes a lot of other audio and 3d problems.

I'm looking into that tsMuxer solution but I can't get my head around it so far. Also searched the forum but didn't find a simple explanation of what I'm supposed to do .

Here's the log from ripping Toy Story 3 to MP4

Fab should fix this so we don't have to do this. It's really a simple process that doesn't take long to do once you remux one or two you will get the hang of this program. Here's how.

Rip store brought disk using Fab use clone/burn to make a 3d (or normal) 50 gig iso output to hard drive this makes a 3d clone of disk (exact copy minus copy protection)

Use DVDFab > Blu-ray Copy > Main Movie to identify the main movie's title number (needed for tsMuxeR) or use bd info. for same data.Copy this down it's the title number Fab picks or bd info picks to make a main movie.Close Fab.(BD info is a free helper program you can get on the internet or just use Fab main movie to get the title number.)

Mount 3d ISO to virtual drive now open tsMuxeR click add then find and click on the virtual drive you mounted the iso movie in now select BVMV and it's files open select play list now you need the play list number you identified with main movie or bd info. click on that file and it loads into tsmuxer the proper whole main movie loads in tsmuxer.Set the tsmuxer output to blu ray iso

Deselect unwanted tracks now look at top bar on tsmuxer change to blu ray theirs a box on the right to (add first mpls file) this is the file number you identified with main movie or bd info. put this number in that box and start muxing.

When done you will have a new iso on desktop that will have solved the overlapping frames in the audio tracks and the ssif files(if 3d movie) will be combined to one big file making the new 50 gig iso able to play on any device without problems.

Use this ISO to do any shrinking to 25 gigs or converting with Fab.

Tnx for the help, but you keep talking about BluRay while I'm just ripping DVDs. Also tsMuxer only seems to have an option to output to BluRay image, not DVD image.

Did a Google on tsMuxer and DVD and found that tsMuxer isn't even meant for DVDs. So I'm back at square 1, it seems .

                    Hi DyingDove
Best practices are to always copy the movie to your HDD first, then use the folder as source for your converting.
I'm leaning toward a layer break issue, please give my friends thread a read through http://forum.dvdfab.cn/showthread.php?t=543
                    Hope this helps you!!!

Edit: Also in Fab settings make sure that you do not have the "Remove Layer Break" option checked.

                      Hi and thanks.

It's definitely not a layer break, since there's more than 1 hickup and can occur anywhere from the 1st minute to the last (but always at the same place). E.g. I'm now using Toy Story 3 as a test case as that already has a hickup at 1'09".

I copied that movie now to HDD (via DVDFab Copy) to do the tsMuxer thing. So I can indeed test that I can now rip it correctly or not in that way. I'll post an update with results.

First copying to HDD and then ripping didn't make any difference. Still have the hickup at the exact same spot.

Still think glenns is on the right track with assuming it's due to some copy-protection trick, even though he's talking about BDs.

If this box is checked uncheck it and give it a try.

Yeah well AAC audio is problematic for me as well and that's why I use AC3 audio. Will your device play ac3 audio? You can try it in any case and see if the problem goes away.
