Is Cinavia copy protection active only on physical optical discs?

I convert all of my physical media to MP4/M4V files for my Plex library.

We have an Oppo 103 Bluray system, several Rokus, Apple TV.

When we have played the movies back, I can't recall ever seeing a message about an illegal copy ala Cinavia.

Hence the question...is Cinavia only for physical media?

It depends on the firmware. My Panasonic BR player will play a Cinavia infected MP4 through the USB port, but if I burn it to a disk it mutes the audio. My PS3 will mute either way. My media player will play either way, even plays the burned disk via an attached USB optical drive. I think you'll just have to test with a known infected disc to know for sure.
