I've tried restarting the program and restarting the computer. I've cleaned the DVD, though it wasn't dirty that I could tell on the first pass. I've also changed DVD drives.
I've had success with other DVDs recording to MPG4 on the two pass setting. Frankly, this is the first time I've had any trouble at all.
