BD Ripper (3D Plus) HSBS 3D subtitles has no depth

When ripping movies as half side-by-side, the subtitles comes out completely flat, causing them to appear inside or behind objects in the scene.

Looking at subtitles that appear at the wrong 3D plane is not very comfortable either.

Is it possible to add a setting that will adjust the subtitles to pop more out of the screen like they do when playing the disc on a Bluray player?

Post the internal log file with this conversion Did you use the 2d-3d convertor or use a real 3d movie and convert to side by side? Are you talking about the regular English sub title tracks and did you try it on a different player or software player?

      Log attached.

This was converted with a real 3D movie with no cropping. Avatar in this case.
I usually don't watch movies with subtitles but I noticed that the forced subtitles in this movie where completely messed up, so I tried to re-convert it with no luck. The subtitles are just as flat, both with the English and Norwegian subs.

I've also gone back and looked at some of my other converted 3D movies and all of them have completely flat subtitles.

I've used VLC and Plex and with both of them the subtitles are flat with the screen.

I found another program called BD3D2MK3D which can read decrypted 3D Blurays and properly convert the subtitles with the right depth data and works fine in VLC and Plex, but it takes 3-4 times as long than just using DVDFab.

I converted Avatar using your settings except i Leave auto cropping on.I used VLC for playback and turned on the English subs so they appear for every spoken word they were Yellow and center screen (flat) not off screen as they should be.They would be distracting if they were off screen in the room.I never saw anything moving behind or in front of them blocking them so you can't read them.A far as I am concerned this is how they should be.Other movies were the same. The titles should stay center screen. From time to time at the very start or end of movie in 3d the words will come off screen as a effect but never subtitles in any 3d movie.

Your log file was cut off and did not show what Fab version you used to do this conversion so try it with the latest Fab version and try with auto crop on in Fab settings but I think your results will be the same.

It's not that the subtitles disappears behind objects as that's not possible, but they appear at the wrong depth compared to some items that pops out of the screen, giving them a really weird and eye-hurting effect as they appear further away than what's behind them.
If you have ever inverted the 3D on your TV/projector/monitor making things that's further away closer and vice versa, it looks like that but only for the subtitles.

          Oops, I'm using DVDFab 10.0.2.8.

Another thing I just noticed is that DVDFab does not preserve subtitle position when converted to 3D, while BD3D2MK3D does so.

          Example:
Left is DVDFab and right is BD3D2MK3D.

It's not something that's super necessary but I have come across some 2D movies that uses subtitles for non-English title cards and such, (for example Inglorious Basterds) which could be messed up if it was converted to 3D or released as a 3D movie.

I just don't see the effect your talking about if you were to convert the 2d movie the subs would be the same and display 2d.I tried it on my projection system with 150 inch screen( 12.5' ) in 3d and my 16x9 computer screen in 2d both keep the subtitles flat on screen and I see no effect that bothers me.

I can tell you perhaps you have a 3d setting not correct try setting the button on the display device or player control so you switch between left eye and right eye one will look correct in 3d the other will not.Maybe you have this control set wrong. From time to time you will see a 3d movie made wrong where the 3d effect is not their or is off like you say hurting the eye when looking at it and it's because the sync on left eye was sync on right eye switching the control corrects this but if left without resetting the control the next movie played will also be off until you reset this switch to sync on left eye,
This will likely mess up the subs also so try it.I think others would complain if something was hurting the eyes and this is not so.

              Like I mentioned;

If I invert the left and right image with my projector or TV the whole scene becomes wrong but the subs are still flat.

The BD3D2MK3D rip and original disc in a BD player works just fine.

I'll re-watch the DVDFab rip of Avatar tomorrow and give you some timestamps where I can clearly see it in hopes that your rip will also show them.

You said you had auto crop enabled. Did it crop anything on the left or right side of the video? That can mess up (increase or decrease depth) the output file and your rip could have the movie appear with an increased overall depth and you wouldn't see the issue I have.

I don't think it takes anything off the left and right sides. It doesn't encode the black bars if it has them so it saves time and file size when viewed it still shows black bars if the movie has them but their just not encoded on the made disk or file.Try it with a few chapters of the movie and see if that makes a difference. There's almost 41 thousand forum members and your the only one complaining so that's why I think it's something on your end.

Ok after viewing the whole movie watching the sub titles as always on I see in some spots where as in the middle of the screen if there's a close up pop off the screen effect where the sub titles are playing that you see what's like a jeti mind trick a little distortion of your eyes trying to focus reading the sub titles as the 3d effect pops off screen forcing your eyes to focus two things at once. One on screen one off screen in the same spot and it does bother the eyes when this happens.Doesn't happen that often but could if the producers put a lot of stuff popping off screen where the subtitles are.The store brought disk will provide depth on the subtitles so this doesn't happen when viewing from store brought disk

Most people won't notice this as they use the forced subs titles only and don't have to view the whole movie reading the titles so reading just the forced subs even if this happens for them won't make it something bother sum.
In your case if you find it necessary to have the subs on all the time then for you the other program makes it logical for you to have it.

As far as will Fab make it work so sub titles can have depth as it does on the store brought 3d disk that question needs to be answered by Fabs staff.
If it's something they can do cost effectively they may.

Doesn't matter if auto crop is off or on.In this movie it cuts 4 lines out in auto crop 1916x1080 with it on 1920x1080 with it off.

Please try a cloned iso (a exact copy of the store brought disk minus copy protection) Try it and see if the result is the same as the store brought disk with depth in the subtitles) of cause this will be a big file but should work.
