Hi, I'm noticing some interesting numbers when it comes to 1 pass vs 2 pass using a DVD source and the h.265 (non-10-bit) encoder:
It seems 2 pass creates smaller files, but I'm also seeing some artifacts on these files.
Here are some test results:
1 pass:
Using MKV H.265 Standard 1 pass: Resultant video rate in file reported by MediaInfo: 587
Using MKV H.265 High 1 pass: Resultant video rate in file reported by MediaInfo: 1042
2 pass:
Using MKV H.265 Standard 2 pass: Resultant video rate in file reported by MediaInfo: 291
Using MKV H.265 High 2 pass: Resultant video rate in file reported by MediaInfo: 230
Using Custom 2 pass
Using MKV H.265 Custom 2pass set at 800kbps target, Resultant video rate in file reported by MediaInfo: 230
Is there something wrong with the 2 pass implementation?
I don't mind smaller file sizes, but the picture is noticeably worse with many visible artifacts when using 2 pass.
Just wondering if others have seen this, is there a fix?
