Hi all,
First of all let me state that making an mp4 copy of a DVD I have purchased in Australia is perfeclty legal for personal use as it is considered format shifting.
I have a large collection of DVD's which I want to make digital copies of as decent DVD players are becoming rarer.
At the moment I am using MakeMKV to make an mkv file then using Any Video Coverter to convert to an mp4. However, I would like a one app solution.
The DVD's I am using for testing are Australian PAL standard 720x576 but with an anamorphic ratio of 2.4:1.
When I rip with DVDFAB ripper, the app comes up with 480p, no matter what I select for an mp4 conversion. I thought it should be 576p.
I think this would cause poor quality as it is throwing away pixels. Looking at the video codec of the converted mp4 in VLC, it shows 720x304, which is actually 2.37:1, probably close enough to 2.4:1.
Are these dimensions correct for PAL, or am I doing something wrong?
Unfortunately with only 3 conversions allowed in the trial version, I can't do repeated testing.
Regards,
Steve
