So, here's the hit list. All titles were ripped with DVDFab 6.2.1.8 with the "Apple TV" profile. "Bad" is defined as having the "progressive audio sync" issue:
    • Bad
      • Max Payne
      • Michael Jacksons - This Is It
      • The Beach
      • Zombieland
    • Good
      • A History Of Violence
      • The Lookout
      • There Will Be Blood
      • Up In The Air
      • Terminator Salvation
      • Couples Retreat

All were done one right-after another, same profile, same computer, etc.

There's gotta be something common amongst the bad ones to have thrown off the audio sync. Interesting...

      @sanger

I think you would be better starting your own thread on this as specific profiles have their own problems and the wmv profiles are not being discussed in this thread.

How about trying Max Payne with the Samsung profile?

I'm currently running version 7.0.4.0 on my XP Pro SP3 media computer (2.2GHz quad-core with 2GB of RAM). I've been busy converting hundreds of my stored movies lately and failed to notice the sound is no longer in sync with the video. The original rips seem fine...it's the AVI conversion that has the sync problem. I first rip to harddrive, then convert using the "generic.avi.xbox.bigscreen1" profile uploaded by a great provider here in the forum. The destination folder is on a seperate drive as well. I keep the DVDFab versions current, and since I've converted so many movies lately, I'm not sure when the issue first began! The sync issue is really bad in version 7.0.4.0, but when I roll-back to an earlier version it's less noticeable, but still seems to have audio lag. I'm going to install older versions of DVDFab and run the same movie conversion again in the hopes I can find where the problem began. I know at one point the issue no longer exists...but where???

Well, I started this thread because I had serious a/v sync issues, whatever format I was using (wmv included). Sanger tells us he has a problem with a/v sync with the wmv profile, which I think is the same problem that many of us have with various (when not all) profiles when using the DVD to mobile option...

              ...

But anyway, just wanted to let you know about the tests I did recently...

              ...

              Last Saturday:
              Installed version 7.0.4.0
DVD to DVD function seems to work perfectly. Although all atempts at using the DVD to mobile function resulted in a/v sync issues, whatever the profile / file format used (WMV, Divx, MP4).

              Sunday:
              Installed version 6.2.1.8
Profile - Avi.Divx.audiocopy --- No difference, progressive a/v lag still there.

--- Had to reinstall windows at that point for an unrelated issue ---

--- Next tests done on my fresh & clean install of Windows 7 (32-bits)---

              Monday:
              Installed version 7.0.4.0
Profile - Avi.Divx.audiocopy --- Still no difference. Progressive a/v lag still there.

              Tuesday:
              Installed version 6.2.2.0
Profile - Avi.Divx.audiocopy --- Seems a little bit better, but progressive audio lag still there, although a bit less severe in the end (but still VERY noticeable)

              ---

I then decided to rip the dvd to my HDD, and will try again tonight, using THAT as the source instead of the disc for both 7.0.4.0 and 6.2.2.0 versions.

I'm still wondering about what could cause this problem... Very, very puzzling.

Yeup, worked fine. I'll get to the other ones soon, but I think your profile is a key in a) getting this to work reliably for me (and others?), b) backtracing to figure out what the real problem is.

It'd be curious to see what happens if you the profile that Greg setup:

For whatever reason, it's working for me under 7.0.4.0 when other things aren't.

Also, what title are you using to test with? Do you have any titles that don't end up with the lag issue?

All of my rips have been to HD first. I never to DVD straight to WMV. DVD to HD. HD to mobile WMV files. ver 7 DVDFav A/v sync issues everytime. ver 6.2.2.0 works perfect. Waiting for the development team to remedy.

you really lost me here. You are saying that u have and use WDTV. Why in a world you need mp4 and Apple TV profile. Even good quality dvd video will be trashed by these formats. Apple TV can't even digest content over 720p resolution, 5 Mbps bitrate limitation, 320 Kbps max audio rate.....
This profile gives me the best image for the iPad. WDTV with MKV files is in the bedroom. I don't know of a portable player that will play MKV. Plus the smaller file size let's me carry more movies.

                      @realnoize

I said this "I think you would be better starting your own thread on this as specific profiles have their own problems and the wmv profiles are not being discussed in this thread." because this problem seems to be related to specific profiles (which the results have born out)

If posts get too long and unmanageable, the chances of the deveopers noticing the problem is slim.

I understand, but I was under the impression that this thread (that I created) was about general a/v sync problems across all profiles... like I said, I too experienced this with the wmv profiles, and Divx, and mp4, etc, etc...

Seems that the problem (well on my end at least) is not profile related since it happens with all DVDs that I tested, whatever the profile used.

I understand that if something happens ONLY when using a specific profile, it is mostly profile related. But like I said, I got these on all profiles I tested.

Will surely try out Greg's profile mentionned previously to see if it works on my PC.

I'm with GregiBoy on this one. You should start new thread all over again and narrow the problem. Over last couple of days I was following your (this) thread and tested every (almost) profile with small video fragment. None of the samples made on my machine shows any signs of a/v desynchronization. I have to suggest that this is your local problem and you need attention and advise from developers. You will have better chance to get it if you start new thread. This one is flooded, and developers wouldn't dig down to page 5 to see where is this going. Just IMO.

                            Mobile Profiles - A/V Sync

                            Thanks IPopov.

I have also tested Ver 7.0.4.0 with the following profiles without any problems since yesterday.

                            generic.avi.h264.audiocopy
                            generic.avi.xvid.audiocopy
                            generic.mkv.h264.audiocopy
                            custom Samsung profile

This is why I am saying that the problem is either a localised problem to specific users or specific profiles.

To all of you that are having problems, please make sure that you are following my "Best Practice: DVD to Mobile" thread (Link below in my sig) especially the first step of ripping to the HDD first and ensuring that "Layer Break" is turned off.

Also, if using versions of windows later than XP, ensure that you have installed Fab as "Administrator" and are running Fab as "Administrator", not just an account that you think has Administrator rights.

As this thread has now reached unmanageable length, I am closing it and please start up a new thread for your individual problem but when you do, please make sure that you list the exact profile/parameters that you are using.

Before posting a thread, I suggest that you read the information required in the "Help Us Help You" thread of this section of the forum.
