DVD Ripper DVD to Mobile slows down

Hi,

when trying to convert a DVD to a DivX avi (two passes), the first pass runs through with roundabout 280 fps.
Then it starts the second pass with 80 fps... 79...78... Zzzzzz.

After 36% of the 2nd pass, we are down to 19.94 fps.
Currently 42.92% are encoded and we are down to 16.27 fps.

This effect applies to all DVDs (at least the four I tried)

Edit1: by the way, dvdfab.exe and dvdfabcore.exe are both still running, yet dvdfab.exe takes 417mb ram...
Edit2: if I press "cancel" the dvdfabcore.exe vanishes, but dvdfab.exe does not react (cancel button still there).
Killing the dvdfab.exe with Taskmanager is great fun, because this causes a bluescreen. (SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, caused by ntoskrnl.exe)

All of the tried DVDs are stored on my local hard disc. Two of them have been ripped some time ago via dvdshrink, the others are tv-recordings.
(Topfield Receiver -> project X -> DVD Lab)

Error Messages: none.

Marc,
I don't see anything unusual.
What program does during first pass is "sniffing" content, identifies problems, and makes notes -script.
During second pass, program following the script and fixes the problems. And all you need is problems in two - three consecutive reference frames, and you (actually program) have "snowball effect" on your hands; then deeper in content you go, then more repair and redoing your content requires. The volume of calculations growing, work intensifies, Speed (framerate) drops. I hope it make sense to you. And 16 fps in a mids of a movie is still a good speed. Stop worry, just let it work.

Also it looks like you are using File to Mobile, not DVD to Mobile. Is this correct?

Try using DVD to Mobile with the main directory as the source (not the VIDEO_TS directory) and one pass.

I suspect that the encoding from the Topfield is not fully DVD compliant.

Nope, I've been using dvd to mobile.
Currently I am running a singlepass-encoding as suggested.
At 33.94%, 22.31 fps.
At 54.34%, 12.57 fps.
At 100%, 0.00 fps and it does not stop.

It took "only" 3.5 hours for the 1 hour 49 movie to encode.
To top it off, the output folder is EMPTY until I cancel the encoding and (to avoid the BSOD) reboot the machine.
After that I find a 1.6gb avi file which cannot be opened by media player classic.

Sorry, but I cannot get myself to find that behaviour "normal".

Is it possible that an installation of divx 8 causes the trouble?
Meaning: dvdfab detects the divx coded and uses it instead of his normal xvid?

Hm, my last posting from yesterday vanished? Ooookay..

Tried to convert the very same movie with a freeware solution.
Result: 27 min alltogether for both passes of the dual pass encoding.

The difference is quite heavy, me thinks.

Seems I'll have to use a different software for my dvd to avi conversions...

Update:

Using v7.07 I get the same results (slowdown, reaching 100% but not ending) with my DVDs which are created with dvdlab out of dvb-s recordings.

Anyway, I tried to convert a bought dvd with dvdfab and converted a 114 minutes video to divx-mp3-avi with dual-pass in under 29 minutes.

189 fps at the end of the 2nd pass.

Bottom line: the quality of the source-video is crucial.
