DVD Ripper idx/sub files not created in 7.0.6.0

I'm trying to rip using vob passthrough in the latest version (7.0.6.0). I have checked "show only forced subtitles" and the subtitle track I want. In past versions (up until about 7.0.4.x I think) this created idx/sub files (including all, both forced and non, but I can live with that) but now it does create the files at all.

I have seen another thread (this one ) recognizing the feature is broken. Is this on the radar to be fixed? I use these (with some extra manipulation) to convert movies that DVDFab has trouble with. I like to take the ones from the vob passthrough as they seem to more in sync with the single vob created from the vob passthrough operation.

Test DVDs: Ronin and Phantom Menace.

As an aside, are there any plans to produce subs in .srt or any other text-based format? This would really be useful.

I'll make the following comments that I made in that previous post.

1. By definition, VOB passthrough is just that. The subtitles are contained within the VOB. That is why I suspect the developers have stopped the creation of the SUB/IDX with this profile. There may be other reasons that I do not know about and we have heard nothing on the reinstation of this.

A work around for your problem would be to have Version 6 & 7 installed, rip to your HDD with V7 and then process the VOB with V6. Both versions can happily co-exist.

2. To convert from SUB/IDX to SRT format would be quite a development job, and as there are already many FREE tools available to do this, I would suggest that it would be viewed as a waste of development resources.

According to the one free tool I have that will open vob files directly, the subs are not contained in the vob that is output from vob passthrough. Though, it may be the tool, I really don't know how else to check it. The tool will find subs in the original vob set ripped to the hard drive, but extracting subs from them creates a timing problem.

I'd love to hear more about the free tools that easily do this conversion as I haven't found one yet.

It can be painful as the subs have to be OCR'd to turn them into text.

If you google something like "[Movie Name] Subtitles", you will find number of websites with subtitles in every language and every format imaginable - you can preview them too, to make sure this is what you're looking for. This will save you a tons of time. And, you can edit them as well, using soft GregiBoy just mentioned. Out of all, I personally prefer these two:
