No Audio on avi

When I convert a mkv file to avi I get no audio.
The source audio is AAC/2 and the default device audio is 'generic.avi.divx.audiocopy'
The audio format box has Bitrate and Channel both as 'Same as source'

Should I change any of these settings?

On the VLC player all audio options are greyed out except channel 1 and disable.
