    8.0.0.5 bug

    Hi!
Ripped a dvd to avi via the h264 audiocopy, using source resolution, single pass
Worked well - audio was in sync etc.

Then went to use the converter to down convert that avi to a lower resolution/smaller file (target limited to 700mb).
During conversion the % marker never moved but an output file was being created so I let it run.
When it announced it was finished (20 minutes) the output file was only 292mb and VLC finds the video stream but never processes any blocks (so no picture)

I noticed this time, the log said it was using the
DXVA GPU acceleration for video decoding enabled
which it hadn't done in my previous test - the preview seems to work but should I disable the accelerated decode? (I'm on an ati hd4870 Driver package 10.6 if that matters)
    Suggestions?
    Jen

Yes I have a suggestion. Read what is listed below and post all info asked to your next post reply to this thread

    by
    signals, Gregiboy and Complication

If you are posting about an operational problem with either the DVD to Mobile or File to Mobile option of DVD Fab, you will improve the speed and accuracy of the response by providing some information in the very first post that will be needed to assist you.

Posts with all the requested information will be answered first.

First, make note of any error codes or messages that appear in popup boxes and put them in your post. Information on error codes that appear in the DVDFab UI are captured in one of the logs we request below.

DVDFab keeps logs of its activities that supply basic system information and can help pinpoint where and when an error happened and help pinpoint the cause. The default location for these logs on most Windows systems is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\your username\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

The logs are simple text files that can be opened with Windows Notepad. If the size exceeds the forum’s attachment size limit, you may need to delete older entries or copy and paste the relevant ones into a new file.

dvdfab_process.log Attach if DVDFab crashes and the crash report window does not come up or complete correctly or if internal error codes appear in the DVDFab window (“Task Failed…”). Time stamped, most recent at the bottom.

dvdfab_internal.log Attach for all problems. Time stamped, most recent at the bottom. Please edit to include only the most recent or relevant log session.

Make sure that you are using good procedures. Recommendations can be found here.

    This Information Is Required!!!

The DVDFab version number. We suggest that you make sure that you are least using the latest Official Release which can be found here and recommend that you also try the latest Beta Version which can be found here.

    The nature of the problem.
The EXACT profile you used and any parameters within it that you may have changed.
If using a custom profile, please attach it to your post.
Whether this happens with all titles or just one.
    Your operating system/CPU/memory configuration.
If you have made any recent changes to your OS or system hardware
If you have other DVD or BD software installed, particularly if recently added.

For File to Mobile, this additional information will speed resolution of the problem:

ok so what you are telling me its not a known problem (and hence need more info) I had hoped not to clutter your forum with yet more media info posts, but hey I'm game if you are

But when played in VLC, it never finds any video blocks to decode (it sees the stream, but the stats panel shows no blocks decoded). I notice in the media info dump it doesn't list the stream size value. Did you want the media info dumps in advanced mode?

Again, this is in the nature of feedback on the new version rather than needing these files now.

hey what do you know.. rather than needing all that media file info, switching to software decode only and now the % complete bar is working!

Looks like there is a problem in the hardware assist settings/module
Will let you know how the recode works in 15 minutes

bah - locked up again (timers are running, nothing is changing in the output file) - seems there is a problem in the end processing cleanup... Interestingly while the file is still being finished, browsing over the file in winXP crashes the file window (generates a microsoft bug report).

On the original report - The switch to software decode seems to have resolved the problem with the % bar not updating
and the result file does have video frames (DXVA decode for recoding appears broken for my combination of hardware/drivers - Though the original encode from dvd was fine - perhaps a different rendering path)

Anyway, If I cancel/close in dvdfab, the output file plays but the audio is out of sync. Also my 700mb limited file is 730mb (maybe you are using 1024mb rather than the now customary 1000?) From the media info, the source file has audio and video duration 01:28:24.288. The recoded file has audio 01:28:24.288 but the video is only 01:28:17.000 (lost 7.288 seconds somewhere!)

gurr hit the limit on length of post.. I'll post just the source file here, and the result file in the next posting.

Here is media info for the file generated directly from dvd (audio in sync)
and then the info for the avi generated from that file (reduced res to 600x338 and limited target to 700mb)
NOTE: using advanced mode because base doesn't show exact track times:

I have yet to get ONE file to encode with this module.

*nod* I'm just trying to help submitting test data

Are there any tools that provide even more detail about the result file than media info? I'm thinking the next bit of information we need to for the audio sync problem is the exact number of rendered frames - then we would know if the sync problem is frames dropped or a problem with fps.

At least now we've found one of the issues is with the dxva assist (on ati, driver suite 10.6 etc etc - dvdfab maybe needs to do a sanity check before using the modules - decode a couple frames with software, do it again on hardware assist and compare the results )

oh - the file shows as 699mb on my phone - so yes its prob the 1024 vs 1000 marketing terms
AND ignoring the audio sync issue - the 600x338 version of the rip plays beautifully on my Samsung i9000 (galaxy S)

                      hi,

"DVD to avi" should be not enable DXVA decode, maybe this is one bug,
please check and disable it and switch it to using software decode and test it again.

                      thanks.

                        Sorry I was unclear..
the dvd to avi worked correctly with all default settings (I only adjusted the resolution). This generated the file I linked earlier. It was while doing avi->avi recoding it tried to use the dvxa assist and generated an invalid (missing?) video stream (had the header, all the right information but no frames) and messed up the % display process.

I've had to delete the file with missing video frames because every time winXP tried to display the media details the file window (explorer) would crash.

Switching to software only gives a file with audio and video - however this still has the "video stream duration too short" problem.
(Hey, fixing one problem at a time is good )
Hope this clarifies - let me know if you want me to try any specific settings on this hardware!
                        Thanks Jennifer

                          hi,

what your mean is "file convert" problem, convert one avi file to another avi file ?

the source avi file is created by DVDFab or special file ?

                          thanks

In this case the conversion was from a file created by dvdfab (directly from dvd). the test scenario was - rip from dvd to avi at full resolution (1024x576) all other setting in the h264audiocopy generic left on default.
Then generate a down res version (for mobile, usb key on smart tv, etc) (600x338, file limited to 700mb, everything else as default).

The conversion from dvd to avi is excellent - great picture and audio stays in sync!
The recoding step failed when I used the default setting (dxva decoded enabled) During recoding, the % complete bar never moved from 0 even though I could see the output file being written. The file generated (media info previously linked) seemed to be missing the video stream content (though the header info was included).
The file generated was only half the target size and caused winXP to close the file explorer whenever it tried to get media info.

Disabling dxva gives me a file with a video stream - though with problems documented here and elsewhere (video stream duration is incorrect, dvdfab doesn't finish the conversion and has to be halted even though the file seems to be complete)

Any specific scenarios you would like me to test, or more details of my system config?

Hi Guys - sorry to raise an old thread but seemed the best option...
Could someone confirm the audio sync problem with avi has been (mostly?) resolved? I went to re-test this behaviour for the 8.0.1.7beta this morning but the demo time on my converter has expired.
(problem seems to be the transcoded video streams duration are too short so audio goes out of sync)

If this has been fixed I can save teaching a couple more friends other apps!
                              Thanks! Jen
