Hi Folks,
I've not used DVDFab for about a year, and I wanted to really start to get my DVD collection on hard drive so I can get the originals put in the loft
I will only be playing my rips on the PS3, but I will be playing the on either a PS3 connected to a TV with stereo speakers, a PS3 connected to a Yamaha amp and 5.1 speakers via an optical cable, and a PS3 connected to an Onkyo amp via HDMI.
I ripped a DVD with the PS3 profile, h264, 2-pass encoding, aac audio, 128kbps 5.1 Surround Audio to an MP4.
This sounded awful on all systems, and although I thought the PS3 would do the mutli-channel decoding before sending to the amp via HDMI, I still don't think I had separate channels.
Can anyone clarify what would the "best" choice of options for me if I would like to keep 5.1 discrete channels that still sounds okay on systems with stereo speakers or an amp not connected via HDMI. I am not bothered specifically about the codecs being an DivX/XviD, h264, aac, mp3 etc. I just want something that looks good, sounds good and uses around 1Gb for each 1 and a 1/2 hour film.
My guess would be an MP4, H.264 2-pass with audiocopy - but I am sure I have had a download with 6 channels that sounded good on all my systems, so I'm not sure!
Thanks in advance!
