    DVD Ripper Error 502

Trying out the trial version, attempting to convert a .ISO file. It plays just fine in the little preview window, but when I try to convert it to .AVI I get

    Error 502. 12 7
    Work 1 failed

Searched the forums but didn't turn up anything for error 502.

    Error 502.12 7

    Hi Tsagoth,

    1) Please try to install the latest beta version 8.0.2.8 at to convert again and check if you still encounter the same problem.

    2) For your problems, could you please use other DVD ISO image files or original DVD discs to convert again and see if this is a universal problem, or just for this one ISO file?

    Best regards,
    Anny

It works on most other discs I have, but there are three or four that all fail like this.

"You posted in a year old thread, moved to thread of your own

          Hi cybmole
Open Fab Click the Green √ top right > Protection > Path Player click Always Enabled click OK restart Fab and try again.
          CBR929"

posting here instead - how many 502 error threads do you need - surely better to have one combined one. please see my post in the old thread for previous details & now please consider this:

blaming pathplayer setting is not logical.

given that rip H264 with default title / file name works
yet rip H264 with edited title / file name crashes.

simple + old ( released 10+ years ago! ) music concert DVDs had little or no protection - pathplayer should be irrelevant.

what does that error code actually mean - the crash comes about 3 seconds into rip which suggests that it happens when trying to create the output file - before any encoding has taken place.

            retest to prove my point:

            1. set pathplayer to always on
            2. try same rip same dvd -springsteen video anthology disc 1 title 1 chapter 19 - generic xvid audio copy - default FILE NAME / TITLE, default for all other options.
same crash immediate 502 error. work 1 failed 502.12.7

so, like i said - this bug has been present for over a year( I googled the error & was sent to the year old thread) and it has nothing to do with pathplayer

then there's the file name / title bug - which has also been there for ages.

don't have the time for a full battery of tests but it seems that using these fields also causes a 502 crash, even with options that would otherwise work
( I vaguely recall, from v6 / v7 days, that spaces in file name / title may be an issue; but if so then why was that never fixed or documented ? )

I googled this issue some more & discovered:

              1. error 502 is NOT in the published list of error codes - WHY ?

              2. another year-old thread suggests the issue is in part due to choice of PCM/2 audio track...

so re-testing that, this time I select the other audio track - ac-3

& now the conversion is running. so why has this never been fixed or officially documented in dvdfab help ???

turning now to using the file name /title fields.
same conversion as above but putting test me into both those fields....
              splat - error 502..

come on developers - you've had these bugs for a year or more, if you cant fix them , then at least document them!

                Hi cybmole,
Which version of DVDfab are you using now? The latest build is 8128 QT beta. If yours isn't it, please try it. .
In my test, no issue with DVD ripper to generic.avi.h264.audiocopy and generic.avi.xvid.audiocopy here. If you fail to do a ripper, please post the latest internal log.

                Thanks for your support!

i dont use betas. i use the latest official release. anyway who are you kidding . the ripper cant handle LPCM audio +xvid. and it can't handle edits to file name / title field if spaces are included. rip works ok with ac3 audio & default file name. vob works.
As it's been unfixed for a year I very much doubt its been fixed in the latest beta. I've already postd all my logs, all they do is confirm the error code, as crash is before any actual ripping gets done.
