Three reasons this is needed: Wireless keyboards such as Logitech KR400 cannot show uppercase, KVMs when switching from one computer to another can invert the case, remote access such as SplashTop can "remember" the wrong case. It is awkward to bring up notepad just to see what case the keyboard is stuck in when the activation panel is full screen and one has used 4 of the 5 chances.
