What Passkey does
The above link just leads you to another geek-speak explaination of Passkey.
Even old DVDs cannot be copied from one DVD to another, because most of their parts are "scrambled" (encoded) so that any DVD player or computer must perform extra work in order to produce the information necessary to display each part on your video screen.
Passkey works with your computer's Operating System's (Windows) disk control system. It becomes a "monitor" that checks every part of a video disk file to see if it is scrambled/encoded. If it is, then it unscrambles/decodes it and sends it on to your computer to be used - displayed as video on your screen or copied to a backup file somewhere.
So once you install Passkey, your DVD backup programs will no longer have to work as hard. They will no longer need to decode the DVD that you are backing up. Every part of the original DVD will be presented by Passkey to your DVD backup program in a decoded form so that your backup program will be fooled into thinking that the original DVD is not scrambled at all.
This is what Passkey really does for you.
