Blu-ray Main Movie MKV to compressed MKV

Several months ago I started putting my Blu-rays on my HTPC. The first 5 or 6 I did using simple main movie mkv-remuxes. Each mkv has one title, one audio track, and no subtitles. Now that I've found a decent bit rate for compressing blu-ray mkvs I would like to compress the mkv-remuxes I did early on.

Using Video Converter I select a mkv, select generic.mkv.h264.audiocopy as the profile, select a constant 12500kbps bit rate and hit start. If I have CUDA enable for decoding or encoding I get an error almost instantly.

I know I can pop the disk back in and start from scratch but video converter should be able to compress a mkv to a mkv, right? Am I doing something wrong? Thx.

Here is the error with CUDA enabled:

If I disable CUDA altogether DVDFab chugs along for about 15 minutes and then pops an errror:

I get the same error converting M2TS files, although I can go up to 13.4kbps (1-pass) before I get the error. Are you trying 2-pass?

I was using 1 pass only.

I get the exact same error when I enable CUDA. Using version 8.0.5.0. Bluray Ripper to MKV; Movie= spiderman bluray; Profile = mkv.h264.audiocopy; AC-3 TrueHD 5.1; H.264

I have GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB card x 2. When I set for software instead of CUDA I do not fail and get the following message.

Wonder why I can not set for CUDA instead of Software?

CUDA not support all of Graphic perfectly. Set both of decoder and encoder to Software please.

High-bitrate HD videos (above 20K) fail using CUDA, software, DXVA and CoreAVC. Video Converter does NOT work with high-bitrate HD videos*. There are lots of posts of it freezing, starting then slowing to 0, never progressing past 0, stopping immediately, etc. The only solutions offered are to try a different method (done), try a different file (done - but that isn't really a solution) and try the latest beta (done). If Video Converter is only designed to reliably work with lower bitrate videos, they need to clearly state this.

*All of my movies are 1080p with HD audio and bitrates between 20K and 40K. Most are MKV, but some are M2TS.

Note: I finally found an HD video that Video Converter works on. "Speed" in M2TS format. It only has a bitrate of around 17K. It fails immediately with CUDA, but appears to be working with software-only. This is one out of 20 videos that have worked.

Never mind on "Speed". While it did finish successfully, the audio is out of sync and there are periodic glitches in the video.
