unable to do avi, help !!!!!

    Hi.

Its been 5 days I try to do avi files with several applications...it does not work...what am I doing wrong...???

Now I try with DVDFab on vista pc.

1st try I had the movie but no sound 22.08.11
2nd try I had the sound but no movie 23.08.11

If my understanding is correct to make avi from DVD I go:

    -dvd to portable
    -then select all settings
    -the launch process

    ...is that correct...???
...is their something I should do before....???
...what would be the settings to choose...???

For what I have read last days DVD should be first ripped...not in DVDFab?

what about subtitle and spoken language? Is their any way I could keep all or part of different languague available?

I really need help on that...I 'm more and more frustrated as I spent 5 days to understand how to proceed (VLC, Coyotte, and 1 more...) but it nether worked...!!!

    Hi arkhane,

For your problems, could you please use other DVDs to see if this is a universal problem, or just for this one DVD "KIKIDELIVERYD2"?

Pick up a small title to try again and then play the avi file with VLC to see the playback.

It'd be better you 1:1 copy the movie with DVD Copy Full Disc mode to your hard drive first, then choose the saved folder on your hard drive as source to rip in DVD Ripper- to AVI. This will help save wear and tear on your optical drive.

With AVI option, you can only choose one audio track yet the subtitles are multiple-selection.

      thanks for the answer...

if I understand correclty I should first copy DVD to my PC using dvdfab ? If yes through wich option? DVD to portable? Then Generic?

      I will try...

why is it so hard to get a simple result...a movie I can see on pc...???

      other questions:

I have dvds with different chapters. How proceed to have only one file with all chapters?

you wrote "With AVI option, you can only choose one audio track yet the subtitles are multiple-selection", which file would allow me to get all or part of languague?

I have seen that once finished, there is the avi file + 2 files which I imagine are for language and subtitle...? right? Do I need them after on a tablet pc ?

I have many many questions...because it really looks not easy at all to get a simple result: ...a movie I can see on pc...

            Hi.

            Thank you for this...!!!

I could copy a DVD following your "best practice" and could make a conversion in AVI....but...I choosed 2 language subtitle and in VLC only 1 is automatically used after conversion....why...? No option to choose which one I want to use...?

            other questions:

            - which conversion should I use to keep same structure as DVD? Previously Mona wrote "With AVI option, you can only choose one audio track yet the subtitles are multiple-selection. "...so which format would allow me to choose different audio track ?
while seeing the movie from the copied DVD (following best practice mentionned above) in VLC I have exactly the same structure as DVD (which is exactly what I would like but after a conversion)

              Hi arkhane,

              Please see attachment about choosing different subtitles in VLC;

To keep same structure as DVD, use DVD Copy (copy modules); yet VOB.passthrough in DVD Ripper will also allow you to rip DVD to single VOB file (standard dvd file) which should meet your needs.

If you'd like to choose multiple audio tracks, please give DVD Ripper-MKV- profile "mkv.remux" or "generic.mkv.h264.audiocopy" a try.

Using "mkv.remux" profile, there would be no compression involved and the output file would be with original aspect ratio, original bitrate, etc.

              Regards,
              mona

                Hi.

                Thank you again...

"use DVD Copy (copy modules)": how...? I do net get a "copy module" option

"DVD Ripper-MKV- profile "mkv.remux": how...? I do not have neither "mkv.remux"

I did a test from previously ripped DVD (best practice mentionned) above, then converted to mkv.h264.aac, mkv.h264.mp3 and mkv.xvid.mp3 but none of them let me choose spoken language.

                Thank you again.

                  Hi arkhane,

                  1) If you have not purchased DVDFab DVD Copy(or your 30-day trial periods have expired), you can use our freeware DVDFab HD Decrypter.

                  2) With DVDFab HD Decrypter, you can use both Full Disc and Main Movie mode to copy your original DVD/Blu-ray discs on your hard drive without compression.

For detailed tutorial, please visit http://www.dvdfab.com/tutorial/DVDFab-HD-Decrypter.

When using DVDFab DVD Ripper-MKV option, insert the original movie to your DVD/Blu-ray drive, select the titles you need to convert, after analyzing process finishes, you can choose "mkv.remux" as profile at the bottom of DVDFab main screen. See the attachment.

thank you again and again...I progress step by step...

                    question:

I have ripped now several DVDs using the best pratice mentionned above. Is their now any I can prepare all conversion and launch it in a bulk?
So far what I have seen is that I can launch many conversion from the same source folder (so same movie converted with different profiles) but nor from different source folders (so different movies...)

thks again for the help...after that I think I will now enough how to use Dvdfab...which I have to say is really nice.

Yes you can. Just drag and drop one after another... you will see all of them in queue.

                        again and again thank you...

                        probably last question...:

I have DVDs for my young daughter. Those DVDs contains small tracks. In DVDFab those tracks are all separated..so when I convert them it make a lot of small avi files...

Is their any way I could make with DVDFab 1 avi file with all those tracks before conversion?

                        thks

If I understood you correctly, you have bunch of individual DVDs that you want to merge and eventually convert to a single AVI file.
You can do it using DVDFab, but it has to be multi-step process:
Step 1. Copy all your DVDs on your HDD. You can create one master folder for it.
Step 2. In DVDFab, in DVD Copy module, select "Merge" option and merge all your DVDs.
Step 3. Load your merged content to a DVD Ripper module, select profile of your choice (one of AVIs, I suppose) and rip the content to an output folder.

Even if you do as you have described, each individual title stays as it's own entity exactly as authored.

Fab cannot join individual titles, period, even in merge mode.

A third party joiner is necessary and they are freely available on the Internet although most of them do another re-encode.

Yea, you're right. But if you want to stay with DVDFab, you can chose any of the single-file outputs and then convert to AVI from there... or just use AVImerge after bunch of little AVIs were made... bunch of ways to do it.
