converted file wont open in quicktime

i tried converting an mkv file to mp4. the process finishes, but the resulting mp4 will not open in quicktime, gives an invalid sample description error. the file will open in windows media player, but with no audio. if i open the file in media player classic i have audio. this seems to be a very odd problem, and i have no ideas. any help would be great. thanks guys.

Quicktime is not going to play the mp3 audio stream you've selected. If you want to play it in Quicktime or any Apple stuff select an aac audio track for your mp4 file.

ah, that is the problem. thanks for your help. switched the audio codec and all is well
