    DVDFab 8.x File-to-Mobile (.mp4) crashes

Reading down through the forums, this seems to be quite the problem with versions 8.x. Like many, when ripping DVDs, 8.x works as advertised, but when converting from the DVD Ripped output to mobile (I have been standardizing my conversions to .mp4) it crashes within 2-5 seconds. I have tried downloading multiple 8.x versions all with the same result. My version 7.07 works great; however, with that version, any DVD that is longer than 2 hours causes a video/audio out-of-sync issue which I was hoping that the 8.x versions would correct. Nevertheless, I can never get them to work.

After reviewing the posts, I have gone through and uninstalled all previous versions of DVDFab, ran a Registry Cleaner software to clear up any lingering references to DVDFab files, and then reinstalled the latest DVDFab version to no avail.

So, any help is greatly appreciated. Please note: This has happened on multiple DVDs.

I have gone into the general settings and made all the A/V Codecs to "Software", I did not have a "profile" folder under the users/appdata.../dvdfab folder, and once again, the only version currently on my system is the latest version.

    Hi jokestaaah,

Have you ever tried "generic h264+aac mp4" profile to convert mp4 file? If not, please try it and see if you still get the crash issue.
Please find the profile folder under C:\Program Files\DVDFab 8\Profiles

      Hi Sunny,

      Thanks for your reply.

Bottom Line Up Front: Changing the profile appears to allow 8.0.3.2 to convert the video.

Due to your suggestion, I played around with changing profiles and this is what I discovered.

      Initial problem:
Step 1: DVD Copy Main Movie to output files (.VOB)
Step 2: Convert output files to .mp4 using ipod.mpeg4 profile
      DVDFab 8.0.3.2 crashes

      Fix #1:
Step 1: Same as Step 1 above
Step 2: Convert output files to .mp4 using generic.mp4.h64.acc profile

      Fix #2:
Step 1: Convert Main Movie straight from the DVD using ipod.mpeg4 profile

      Last thoughts.
      I standardized these settings:
      Encoding Method: 2 pass conversion
      Fixed Bitrate: 2000 Kbps
      Framerate: 23.976 fps
      Audio Bitrate: 128 kbps
Video Effects settings>Size Supported by Device

When it was all said and done, Fix #2 yielded the higher quality result yet it took a little bit longer to encode. So, taking everything into consideration, I think I will stick with the ipod.mpeg4 profile since I now have a work around.

Thanks for listening and the great ideas!

          Issues

I've also had issues converting files using the generic mp4 selection. Crashes within a few seconds... My source file is an HD Flip Video that is also an MP4.

Use the suggested fix of the IPOD.MP4 and it worked. Is it possible to try to convert a file that is originally 720x480 to something like 1024x720? maybe this is what's making it crash. I dont know exactly what the resolution of original video is and it's possible i'm trying to upconvert. Would upconverting make the program crash?

          Thanks,
          Arnold

Actually, I tested out the file I converted from a FLIP HD Video File (MP4) to and IPOD.MP4 profile and found out that the video is in slow motion while the audio is in real-time. So once the audio is done... the video continues in slow motion until it too is done. Not sure what i'm doing wrong or if it's something with FLIP HD Video files.
