This happens a lot, although I can't say if it happens every time, and I can't remember when it started.
I will have an mkv video without subtitles. I download an SRT from a subtitle website.
I add the subtitle with the 'add external subtitle' option.
I can convert to MP4 with copy video, or with an encoding method. When you play the resulting video, it will stop at the last time code in the subtitle.
Sometimes the resultant video length is the length of the original video (see attached image), and sometimes the video is the length of the last time code in the subtitle.
I can get past this issue by editing the subtitle and adding a blank entry at the bottom with the last time code equal to the length of the video.
