    Paramount+ Dowloading AAC 2-Channel Audio

(This is really against v5.0.4.5 (Win), the dropdown didn't have that one).

All Paramount+ shows I have downloaded recently are only getting AAC 2 channel output, including the Star Trek movies which should certainly have EAC 5.1 audio available. When I go to select the shows for download, all that appears in the audio selection box is "English", which caused me to download a bunch of movies which I then immediately deleted.

    1) There is probably EAC 5.1 sound for many titles available which is not being found.
    2) The Paramount+ selection tool shold indicate what audio quality is available (like it already does for video quality), so I can choose to avoid 2-channel output on modern titles, and
    3) Feature request - I wish there were settings for minimum allowable video and audio quality, and required subtitle language, so the downloader can abort if those constraints aren't being met at download time.

Are you sure that you have your VIP Services Settings set up the way you want?

I have passed your Feature request to the software designer.

In that case attach your StreamFab.log so Mona can send it over to the developer.

I attached the log to the original post. I don't see it there now. My log is overwritten by now; I'll have to recreate one when I get to the end of the current queue.

              Hiya jhyler,

I subscribe to Paramount+ thru Amazon as a channel.

I downloaded the following Star Trek Movies that I have from Paramount+ on Amazon prime and

              Star Trek
              Star Trek II
Star Trek - The Motion Picture (Director's Edition)
Star Trek - The Wrath of Khan

All have 6 channel - 192Kbs Dolby Digital Plus thru StreamFab/Amazon/Paramount+ Channel

I don't have a separate Paramount+ account or would also test that for you directly from Paramount+ website.

              Mike

                Mona,

I have attached a log of Streamfab downloading Star Trek (2009) from Paramount+ with only AAC 2-channel audio. I hope this can get fixed. I'm one of those people who enjoys a 480p DVD movie with surround sound far more than a 1080p - or even 4K - stream with 2-channel sound.

                StreamFab.log .

                Mike_M,

Back when subtitles weren't getting downloaded from Paramount+, Amazon offerred a $0.99 trial of Paramount. I jumped on it and found that indeed I would (usually) get better quality through Amazon. Unfortunately that offer is over and my annual subscription to Paramount+ still has 9.5 months to run. So I'm kind of stuck for a while. Not to mention PP annual pricing beats Amazon's monthly charge for the channel. But if this is still an issue at the end of my subscription period I may well have to switch over.

                Thanks for your help!

You should get it, Mike. Takes 2 minutes to set up and it comes with your Paramount+ account, no extra charge. Having a backup is always a good idea. http://paramountplus.com/amazon

The reason the price is different is that Amazon only offers the Premium Plan which has no commercials and has live video. I believe, could be wrong, StreamFab can not record live video. And definitely SF gets rid of commercials anyway. The one advantage I guess you could say is that you can get additionally the regular Paramount+ at their website for free just for asking for it. See what I wrote to mike above.

                      Thanks Cats4U!

Had to use a different email that I haven't used in a long time & had to find password.

Paramount+ wouldn't accept the one I normally use since I used it when I first got Paramount+ standalone.

Now I can compare files from StreamFab from Paramount+ direct or thru Amazon.

                      Mike

Wow!, that's weird because it took mine. I even had a new one setup in my password manager to use if they didn't take the old one but they did. I have my own domain so I have an unlimited number of addresses I can come up with.

I re-signed up for Paramount+ for 99 cents for 2 months during Prime Day - and about 5 other services for the 99 cents/2 months too...

After verifying my Amazon/Paramount Plus at Paramount Plus direct website (Per Cats4U's suggestion), I downloaded 3 of the Star Trek movies (Star Trek 2006, Into Darkness, ST The Movie - Directors cut) with StreamFab, all are only 2 channel/no Dolby - but 192k/bs Dolby Digital 6-Channels is available directly from Paramount, but just not being pulled by StreamFab.

So to digress in a different direction... an experiment using Star Trek: Nemesis

StreamFab downloaded the movie from Paramount+ at 1920x1080, 2 channel sound. We know that's an error and Paramount+ actually has 1920x1080, 6 channel sound. I checked Amazon and StreamFab told me the resolution available was 1920x816, and we know that 6-channel sound is available there. So it would seem the Amazon video in their cloud got recoded to remove the letterboxes which were in the Paramount+ download. Which is fine with me, but it suggests that Amazon is maintaining Paramount+ material in its own cloud library, distinct from Paramount+. That's a huge amount of cloud storage space. Why wouldn't they share and be offering the exact same thing?

I guess you aren't familiar with AWS. Huge does not even come close to describing it. You'd be surprised at all the big companies that run off it. On the other end of the spectrum you'll find the cheapest personal cloud storage space for backups and archiving by using their S3 storage. https://aws.amazon.com/
