StreamFab 6.0.0.7 (Win) Amazon Prime - CVBR/CBR

I updated today to the latest version 6.0.0.7.

Unfortunately, I found out that Amazon Prime only shows CVBR as the bitrate.

Before you could always choose between CVBR and CBR.

I always found this to be a great advantage over the competitor program.

Please add the selection option again.

They also Gave up 5.1 Surround Sound. It only offers AAC on Amazon Prime on this current update! I find it odd that rather than adding new features that they should focus on the problems at hand. Everything has been worse since they upgraded to version 6 and above! Speeds for downloading are terrible right now from all sites! So much for turbo speeds!

People need to read release notes for new versions instead of blindly upgrading. I am not upgrading to 6.0.0.7. It is a stop-gap version for people who absolutely need to get the new stuff right away.

I get most of my new stuff from newsgroups and use SF to download in H265 and have English, French and Romanian subs. If we ever get normal download functionality back for new stuff, i will go back and download and replace newsgroups stuff except for Disney+ and AppleTV+ since newsgroups have those in 1080p or more.

I have plenty of stuff to watch so i don't need to get the new stuff right away with StreamFab. I used to have over 13000 movies and 2200 TV Shows totaling over 100000 Episodes but after a major cleanup, i now have 8413 Movies and 1940 TV Shows totaling 89226 Episodes.

I am fully aware i will die before watching all of that stuff.

Some people collect stamps or coins, i collect digital Movies, TV Shows, Music and Comic Books.

Depends on the competitor. One I have their forum continues to see error reports, and their mods say they are still working on it.

I don't care which one fixes it first, since I have both, I'll use whichever is working.

Not exactly - their Prime downloads have progressed from 480p to 800p and 960p for selections that would normally download in 1080p. Their best Netflix resolution is 540p, so IMO they're both pretty much in the same boat and bailing. Last year, StreamFab cracked everything first - by January I'd gotten tired of waiting for them to solve the DRM issues and bought SF.

Honestly, although I do agree they have a LOT of unfixed problems and don't seem focused on fixing them, I don't see why any really wants CBR unless they have bandwidth limitations, and since you're not watching it live that shouldn't be an issue. CBR is almost always bit for bit worse. You could come up with a trivial situation where they are equal, but not better. Basically a "video" that is just a still image would compress to the same size and quality. Pretty much everything else is going to have better perceived quality at equivalent sizes. CVBR adds bits as needed to maintain quality and strips them out when not needed. in situations where bits are added, CBR gives bad compression artifacts, in scenes where less bits are needs and CVBR removes them, CBR just wastes bits and gives you better quality. Overall this leads to an inconsistent visual experience, and doesn't save on overall.

The only time I can see wanting CBR is if the CBR version was the master and the CVBR version was re-encoded from it, or if there were scenes that were so complex that the bitrate exceeded your bandwidth for a prolonged period of time, a little bit of this doesn't batter due to buffering.

As for "800p" and "960p" there is no such beast there are 1080p videos that are actually 800 or 960 pixels high, because of cropping to enhance the widescreen aspect a little. The width is still 1920, they just cropped out the black bands at the top and bottom to optimize filesize.

480p is also know as SD or DVD quality

I only use one other Competitor and started using them in May after looking for an alternative for HBO Max 1080 after the 2nd DRM update this year and waiting a few months for StreamFab to fix theirs.

Right now they've set the limit to 500 downloads (great for series!) and I like that I can easily download three concurrent downloads from different providers (you can go to 6) using the "unlimited" setting and can modify the DL speed on the fly.

They've posted they are back to the same condition as before this last CDM change - both resolution/sound & speed (no difference between old vs new content).

Here's some current conditions for them.

With the exception of different titles, I'm getting the same results as you Mike. Everything over there seems to be back to normal for everything I've grabbed since last night and ongoing during the day today. The admin said everything was returned back to normal which appears to be correct from what I've grabbed so far.

I can't say the same for here. When using HBO over here, it's only grabbing 480 content and using the HBO module I'm only able to get 720 as of the time of this writing.

The fact that SF released a version that does recording does not bode well IMHO.

Competitor is back to normal so the fact that SF is recording shows a lack of confidence that they will be able to handle this CDM change in a timely manner...

Sucks cause i really love being able to download in HEVC/H265 at lower bitrates. Competitor has HEVC on HBO Max but no bitrate selection and no HEVC at all on Prime

From what I see with competitors, AC3 is being ditched by Amazon for Digital Dolby plus (DD+)
