HD Downloads on MAX Not True HD

First, let me preface by saying I know that with Max's DRM that not every video is available in full HD. A lot of the videos are limited to a max resolution of 1200*720. Has anyone noticed that for the shows/movies you are able to find that offer an HD download that it is not a true HD download? Here are two examples of what I am referring to. Prior to the transition from HBO Max to Max you could download both Mortal Kombat and Hellboy at a resolution of 1980*1020. Now, using the Max downloader in Streamfab 6.1.2.8 the highest resolution available is 1600*666. I don't know if this is related to the DRM for Max or if is a limitation of the new version of the software. All other downloaders (Netflix, Amazon, Paramount Plus, Peacock) that I use have the ability to download in full 1920*1080 HD.

Has anyone else seen this or been able to download a show/movie from Max in full HD?

I am confused with your confusion.

Currently, StreamFab can only download from Max in HD and not Full HD. You said so yourself.

HD is maximum 720 lines and Full HD is maximum of 1080 lines. The lines will depend on the aspect ratio.

So 1600x600 is considered 720p which is consistent with StreamFab not fully cracking the DRM for Max.

When HBO Max changed their DRM, StreamFab never fully recovered to 1080p so i wouldn't hold my breath for Max at 1080p...

Maybe it has something to do with the conversion from HBO Max to Max but there were titles previously I was able to download from Max at full 1920*1080. Case in point, I mentioned Mortal Kombat and currently being able to download it at a max resolution of 1600*766. Using the HBO Max downloader I was able to download that movie on May 8th 2023 at the full 1920*1080 resolution but if I try downloading it today using the Max downloader I can only get it at the 1600*766 resolution. I'm just trying to understand if this is due to a change in the DRM associated with Max or if this is a function of the new Max downloader. I assumed the Max downloader would offer the same performance as the previous HBO Max downloader given as I understand it it's primarily the the URL the downloader is referencing but maybe my assumption is wrong.

Yes your assumption is wrong. The site was a rebuild from scratch. Yes it looks similar but that is just aesthetic. What's under the hood is different so that is basically a brand new provider. Lotsa knowledgeable people have said Max is much better under the hood than HBO Max was.

Now you have the double whammy of brand new site and different DRM. Obviously it's not that hard to crack with the proper know-how but some of us are skeptical of that expertise being available in-house within the StreamFab developers. The reason for that skepticism is the HBO Max module's track record compared to the competitor and the "scene".

Typically, the competitor and the scene have bounced back very quickly after a DRM change while StreamFab hasn't. And when they did restore 1080p, they never announced it and it was always for older releases which hints at them just getting their hands on a keys database and not the actual tool doing the key extraction.

Right now, competitor and scene are offering 1080p for Max. Hopefully StreamFab gets their hands on another keys.db or they finally figure out the secret sauce.

          Wow.

Everyone can now stop DM'ing me about what "The Scene" is. It is not a program. It's is a collective of groups comprised of individuals that release pirated content onto the internet. They mostly use python scripts to get the content from the streaming providers.

Like it's been noted by several others before, StreamFab also uses python scripts for the core of it's decrypting functionality but have very customized extras and of course, a snazzy, somewhat user friendly interface.

They both have HBOMax in Europe and Max fixed for 1080p in all new stuff. Competitor did it for HBOMax without an update.

Thank you for the response. Your information is quite helpful and insightful. I guess ti is time to start looking for a competitor for the HBO Max downloads. I have another program I've used similar to StreamFab but their Max downloader is limited to 720P.
