    StreamFab for Windows If You're Wondering What StreamFab Creates/Modifies on your Windows System....

    Numerous times I've asked development to provide me with a list of system changes made during a StreamFab install and to date NADA, ZIP, ZERO, ZILCH. I run VirtualBox and have VMs set up for a number of different reasons but one is to test software and as most would agree SF sorely lacks in this area. I recently set up a VM of Win11 for torrenting and also installed SF 6.2.0.0 as I have a VPN installed to change my IP geolocation and recorded all the changes made to the system during install so I know what to remove after 3rd party uninstallers shit the bed (which they do well). A few of you are familiar with the Windows Registry and file system and this post is aimed primarily at those inquiring minds who want to know.

    Some of you have multiple versions installed as it is common knowledge when old bugs are addressed new ones are sometimes introduced forcing us to switch between versions to accomplish what we set out to do with regards to streaming services, titles and series. This may or may not impact running multiple versions but for a completely fresh install may be helpful.

    I started off with a fresh install of Windows 11 after removing all the bloat and eyesore common to the out of the box install. I did a fresh install of SF 6.2.0.0 and made note of the system changes. If you have additional info please do post it so I can update the list. Here's what I found so far (specific to StreamFab):


    Items created during install and first run (all items assuming 64bit Windows).
    Items specific to my system have been replaced with generic nomenclature such as
    XXXXXXXXXX or YOUR_USERNAME for obvious reasons so you'll have to refer to your
    own system and user info:

    The next I'm assuming is a plug for MusicFab. One thing that
    aggravates the hell out of me is in-app ads. If I want the

    This next one you DEFINITELY want to delete if you're like me and have
    several versions installed due to new bugs introduced fixing old bugs
    which happens quite often. I NEVER use the built-in updater. That's a
    great way to paint yourself into a corner with no way out. Best bet
    is to also rename SreamUpdate.exe to StreamUpdate.exe.NOPE! to be safe.

    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3474731731-411205174-628922476-1000 and HKEY_CURRENT_USER are the same. HKCU always points to the currently running users HKC/SID. I never look in HKU, unless I am going to modify another user's registry as an Admin.

    Anything in the WoW6432node is for 32bit programs, 64 bit programs will often enter keys and entries here for backwards compatibility. Seems the installer is a 32bit app, go figure.

    But seems like it doesn't really do anything to your system at all.

      All I did was export EVERY entry SF created. I wasn't concerned about why.

      If these entries do nothing to the system then why on earth is everyone shoving "professional installers" down other's throats? There is no such thing. It would be a simple matter of deleting directories and done.

      All I am doing is removing every trace SF created during install. If you know of a better way that doesn't require running unsigned powershell scripts posting this costs nothing and it would benefit quite a few, myself included.

        I have no idea.

        I've looked to see what the uninstaller leaves behind. It's just the root registry key's, the Log and Temp folders. Keys in the registry do nothing, they are essentially folders in the registry. That instruction set can be trimmed down to uninstall, delete your log and temp folders. reinstall. Often, I just close the program and delete those files. I have it set to not auto start, and close on exit. Don't need it running when I'm not using it.

        Everything you listed is for stream fab, except the uninstaller. That's for windows to know where to find the uninstaller in add/remove progs.

          A few times during uninstall I opted to remove all settings and SF still leaves traces behind. In the past I didn't concern myself too much with what SF adds to the registry when switching between versions. But, it never hurts to be prepared. For a while there I switched versions so often that I cobbled together a batch file to remove the traces left behind in between installs.

          I also have it set to exit completely and disabled automatic startup as I don't need it running all the time. I also rename StreamUpdate.exe to StreamUpdate.exe.NOPE! so SF doesn't try to push me into the next round of oopsies before I'm ready. Deleting the SF updater entry in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run] accomplishes the same.

          It can also be disabled in Win11's Task Manager under Startup apps which is probably quicker than deleting the entry in Run.
