    YouTube Youtube 4k?

Man, this software is both nice and just really bad all at the same time. Promises in advertising and the app doesn't even do it. Like what is the point then?

it is clear as day that you "should" be able to download youtube videos in 4k. It clearly stats it on the page for streamfab.
But yet when you go to the settings.... where is my 4K option to download YouTube videos?

Of course, when you click on the link to see how to do this, all they refer to is how you can only download max 1080p.
so can someone please explain to me why this is. Cause at this point, this is completely false advertising.

Thanks for anyone taking the time to answer my question. This is just very frustrating.

There are 2 key phrases in your screenshots - "depending on the original sources" and "best quality".

Yes, YouTube can show videos in 4K (Ultra High Definition, or UHD). Many creators upload their videos in 4K resolution, and YouTube supports playback of these high-quality videos. *

How to check and select 4K quality on YouTube: *
    1. While a video is playing, click on the gear icon (Settings) in the YouTube player.
    2. Select "Quality."
    3. If 4K is available, you will see an option like "2160p, 4K." Select it to switch to 4K playback.
In order to download such a video in 4k with SF, you need to choose "Best Quality" as the resolution. If the video is not available in 4K or the codec you are using does not offer "Best Quality", you will not be able to download that video in 4K.

Yeah, the AV1 fixed it for me from the other post. My dream is for streamfab developer to default YT downloader to AV1 so we don't have to change it from H264 to AV1.
I tried so many other YT video downloaders, and they all default to AV1 and you can get 4K or up to 8K depending on the video.

Don't see this happening anytime soon, but we can wish.
Things can't be fully accomplished without proper access.
Things need to be done with active moderatoration.

Disclaimer: Use of a VPN can NOT be fixed by StreamFab.

Thank for the response but nothing in any of my screenshots even come close to have those two things quoted. When you go to a 4k uploaded content on YouTube and you hit the download button and all you get is 1080p, that is wrong. That has nothing to do with best quality. When you click on the link that says Download YouTube video at 1080p, 4k and even 8k lossless and it talks nothing but 1080p content and doesn't mention in any way to get the higher resolution content is insane.

And yes I am very aware how to check to make sure the video on youtube is 4k and unless, like pointed out in another answer, unless I change the codex in the actual download prompt, the best quality defaults to 1080p. It would be super nice, after paying top dollars for this software, there is proper documentation one can read and do it without posting in the forums.

Boom, thank you, this has worked. Don't have AV1 as an option but I do have VP9. Reading your post also seems to answer my second question. I want to auto download from YouTube using the scheduler. Store those on my nas and then play them out using plex. This way, giving YouTube the middle finger for forcing ads to push me to buy there BS subscription. But if I have to select a different codex every time, I download a YouTube video and best quality is literally not even that, it is kind of insane. I will give it a try and see what happens. I am sure though, I will have the same success or failures as people here have so far.

And that is exactly why screenshots alone are often useless in providing the information needed to solve the problem. I stand by what I wrote. The original source must be in 4k in order to download in 4k. Had you provided your StreamFab.log I would have found out that you were attempting to download in H264 or that the original source was uploaded in H264. You will never get 4k with H264 as pointed out by Germania and Stan001 . As a new member, I suggest you read the excellent how-to article "How to post issues in the StreamFab section" written by jpp72 at https://forum.dvdfab.cn/forum/stream...eamfab-section.

Oh, so you want logs for clarification type of post. okay. I'll make sure I posts all the logs for anything I ever ask and show tons of screenshots of everything that goes with those logs. I'll also make sure I post everything about my system as well just so there is no confusion about anything. I hope my future posts don't become too long and get ignored because of the amount of information being post. It is not a problem. You will have to bear with me as a new member and all.

btw... H.264 with a level 5.1 will be able to deliver 4k at 30. You should ask me how I know. If the information available on streamfab website is any indication on how information is displayed, I don't have any hope on how amazing the excellent how-to-article is on the forums. but hell, let's all have a log party for all the questions. I to stand by what I wrote earlier. If you have a link that highlights 1080p, 4k, and you go to read those articles and it mentions nothing about 4k, is that correct? The wording is wrong and misleading. having to go to a forum to upload logs to get a simple answer that should have easily been found anywhere through a FAQ section or some simple instructions is insane.

hope you have a great day. I am getting all my logs ready for my next post as it seems streamfab can't download a basic youtube video anymore after running for 24 hours, restarting app and then a full re-install. I do hope, that when I am done with my troubleshooting and post all the information and answer is going to be giving post haste as I do expect a piece of software that cost 280 dollars to work as intended.

I think you should check your attitude at the door. We've lost quite a few newbies and long-standing members because of attitude. You are not being asked to provide any more information than anyone else here for many years now. The forum is here to provide help to members by other members. Being that there are many that have been here for years (especially Trusted Members) we know exactly what information we need or don't need to help solve someone's issue. The #1 most important bit of information needed is the StreamFab.log and will be asked for near 100% of the time if it is not provided by the member having a problem. If you don't want to deal with your fellow member, don't use the forum. Send Feedback to the SF staff. Good luck with that.
As far as complaining about spending $280 for the program, now is not the time for that. You should have done your research before you made the purchase, like I did by reading the forum for two weeks to see what issues were happening. Compared to the other program that existed at the time, the issues were pretty much the same, and so it was a toss of the coin. Luckily, I picked the one that still exists today. As it has often been said, downloading videos from a streaming provider is a cat and mouse game. The issues change from day to day because the provider is trying to make it hard for you to download their videos and SF is coming up with ways to get around those roadblocks. Without a doubt, there will be times when whatever you want to get, you will temporarily not be able to. If you had researched this form of (supposed) piracy before shelling out $280, you would have known this. You have no one to blame but yourself, and your attitude should be directed at yourself rather than anyone else here that is trying to help you.

VP9 download is working in 4K for me just fine. Up until the recent issue (June 10) where trying to download videos would only offer audio option and no video option.

As it should. It's a well known fact that YouTube uses VP9 and AV1 for 4k. It was discussed many times in the posts above.

Accept, not deliver. According to Google (the YouTube people) Gemini, YouTube will accept a video that is H.264 Level 5.1, but they then convert it over to VP9 or AV1.

YouTube's encoding process: When you upload a video, YouTube re-encodes it into various formats and resolutions to optimize playback across different devices and internet speeds. While they accept H.264 Level 5.1 (especially for higher resolutions like 4K), they will then create multiple versions, potentially using other codecs like VP9 and AV1 for more popular videos or higher resolutions.
