Pluto TV SF 6250 (and older): Several Lupin III Movies Failing on Remux

Quite some time ago I noticed that a handful of Lupin III movies were failing during remux on Pluto TV. Had more important things to worry about at the time so I put it on the back burner.

Today I re-visited it with SF 6250 and noticed the problem was still there, so I thought I'd bring it up.

I already submitted feedback through the app but am posting it here as well in case anyone else had (or is having) the same problem.

These movies are being downloaded as "tv episodes" even though they are individual movies, and not all of them are failing, just the following:

    TVSP #6: Dragon of Doom
TVSP #7: The Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure
TVSP #8: The Secret of Twilight Gemini
    TVSP #10: Tokyo Crisis
TVSP #14 Episode 0: The First Contact
    TVSP #16: Swallowtail Tatoo
    TVSP #20: Sweet Lost Night
    TVSP #21: The Last Job

I only see in the log:
    Code:
    [Download Check]: download result: "success"
I tried only "LUPIN THE 3rd TVSP #6" from pluto US ..
.. and can't detect any problem (tested with mp4)

Detecting as a series may lead to a subfolder and the title as the episode title.
However, this has nothing to do with faulty remuxing.

If you encounter a remux problem that I have overlooked
in the log, try changing your mkvmerge video format.

Sorry for the late reply. I was using MKV (MKVToolNix), changed it to MKV (FFMpeg) -- still failed. Tried using MP4, that failed as well.

Pluto has quite a few Lupin III TVSP episodes but only the ones I listed above have failed. For example, "Lupin the 3rd TVSP #13: Alcatraz Connection" downloads and remuxes just fine.

To give you an example of what I'm seeing in the outputTemp directory when I download one that doesn't work:

      2025_09_30_20_36_39_6568cc3e24664a001317a7b5_audio _en_0.mp4 through 2025_09_30_20_36_39_6568cc3e24664a001317a7b5_audio _en_8.mp4 (9 files)
      2025_09_30_20_36_39_6568cc3e24664a001317a7b5_video 0.mp4 through 2025_09_30_20_36_39_6568cc3e24664a001317a7b5_video 8.mp4 (9 files)
      2025_09_30_20_39_43_6568cc3e24664a001317a7b5_audio _en_0.mp4 through 2025_09_30_20_39_43_6568cc3e24664a001317a7b5_audio _en_8.mp4 (9 files)
      2025_09_30_20_39_43_6568cc3e24664a001317a7b5_video 0.mp4 through 2025_09_30_20_39_43_6568cc3e24664a001317a7b5_video 8.mp4 (9 files)

      Total 36 files

I even tried downloading to a shortened directory (c:\temp) instead of my usual location, thinking maybe the full path and filename was too long...still fails.

As a final attempt, I did a clean uninstall of the version I was using (had just updated to 6257 before posting this), cleaned out the entire "StreamFab" directory of any remnants, then reinstalled it and tried again making no changes to the SF preferences...

      That worked.

So apparently there is something in the SF preferences I had that was causing it to fail when remuxing. This calls for some investigative work that will have to wait until the weekend.

Thank you for your suggestion as I wouldn't have considered the output format to be a possible culprit.

Couldn't wait for the weekend as this was starting to consume me.

Once I started changing the preferences it started to fail again. I forgot that there are "General" preferred settings and "VIP" preferred settings.

If "General" is MKV and "VIP" is MP4 - FAIL
If "General" is MP4 and "VIP" is MP4 - FAIL

        Huh? It worked earlier...

I then changed the "General" video resolution from "Best Quality" to "4KUHD" (as I honestly don't recall what the default was and I think I changed it)...failed again.

Did another uninstall/clean/reinstall and started over.

The only changes I made were the success/error sound files, and unchecked Display Adult Services on home page, Auto Start upon system startup, and open the folder automatically after download finished. "General" and "VIP" video formats stayed as MP4.

I added TVSP#6 to my download queue and let 'er rip (er, download...): Success

Then I added TVSP#7 to the download queue and started: Success

Then I changed "General" preferred video format to MKV (left "VIP" as MP4) and added TVSP#8 to the download queue: Success, but it downloaded as MP4, so SF is using the VIP settings for the preferred video format for Pluto.

Then I changed "VIP" preferred video format to MKV (FFmpeg) and added TVSP#10: Success, and downloaded as MKV.

Then I changed "VIP" preferred video format to MKV (MKVToolNix) and added TVSP#14: Success, downloaded as MKV.

        ...

Now I'm scratching my head as to why it failed earlier and now is perfectly fine.

I then closed SF, reopened it, and then added TVSP#16: FAILED

So, it seems that worked on a clean install of SF and continued to work until the application was closed and then re-opened and another attempt is made. Please see if you are able to replicate that on your end.

I can't currently test (on the way to work) ..
.. but Pluto is VIP - so General Video Format should always unused for Pluto

I think General Video Resolution affect also DRM DL ..
          .. but I can't remember getting a Pluto title better than 720p

Both Video Formats with my default mp4 and TVSP#16 (via US) fails:

            Code:
[Info]: [Download Check]: download result: "success"
            [File Check]: record file location: "C:/Users/Germania/Documents/DVDFab/Output/Lupin the 3rd TVSP #16_ Swallowtail Tatoo/S01/Lupin the 3rd TVSP #16_ Swallowtail Tatoo_S01E01_Lupin the 3rd TVSP #16_ Swallowtail Tatoo.mp4"
[File Check]: record file not existed
and in outputTemp are 10 video + 10 audio parts

so I switched to mkvtoolnix, restarted SF and tried again => no way

so it's the same as here

Pluto has been touch-and-go for a while. Some things download, others don't.
The resolution Pluto mostly gives turned me away from Pluto, but I tried tests due to recent reports of downloading issues.

When support and the developer get back, make a report to SF via the contact form. Or there is a feedback option right in streamfab.
