The specifications of this product state that you need an external Wifi USB network card if you want to connect to the internet via your router. Can anyone recommend a good USB Wifi card that they think would compatible with this box?

I would not recommend ANY. You will inevitably have problems playing media across WiFi.
You would be far better served using Ethernet-Over-Power suh as this:-
