    Vid On Me

I received the Vidon.me set top box in the mail last weekend. I plugged the Vid box into my HDTV via HDMI and then plugged my external WD My Passport 1.5tb into the Vid box. On the upper left side of my TV screen the word "Analyzing.." appears. I assume its trying to read the WD hard drive. Nothing else happens. It stays in this "Analyzing" mode for hours. I tried the 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports. When its in the Analyzing mode the box freezes up. I reboot and same problem occurs. How does the box work. Also, when I first turn on the box there is a message, "Software experienced an unknown exit, upload your file log?", with options to select yes or no. How can I get this to work?

did you plug it into the internet or set up wifi and do the update?

    what version are you at?

what is the drive formated as NTFS or fat32 or ?

The version is 1.0.4.1. The hard drive is a Western Digital My Passport 1.5 TB. I looked at the HD properties and it appears the format is NTFS. I plugged the box into my modem via Ethernet cable, but haven't figured out how to set up the wifi or even the hard wire.

yes that is the old version, new is 1.0.4.6 (still nothing great, but they are working on it as we are all told here, to make it perfect)

all you should need to do is plug in the Ethernet (network) cable to it, then apply power to the vidon.me , that is what i did and the update was there.

        try and goto
        system
settings or if your there then system again
        then manual update

as long as you are on your network, it should find it.

NtFS is fine for me and works as it should for you.

then let us know if it works or ?

In the setup they give a wifi selection but it does not work for me and someone else posted that this does not have wifi.

Re do the setup in the same submenu as manual update if you cant get it to connect. You should be able to choose DHCP unless your network is strictly static IP's.

Thanks. I was able to update the box to the current version, following your advice of shutting off the box, then plugging in the Ethernet cable and turning the box back on. I have to play with the remote alittle to figure out how to play a movie. I did get a movie to begin playing and it appears choppy. The audio seems fine though. Any thoughts about the choppy video?

              See my post here

If you find more let me know and I will try to verify I have the same problem and add it to my list.

They are working on fixing this, from what they emailed me and said here, they just need time. I hope soon but ???

People please post if you have my same issues or not. We all need to know and they are reading these threads supposedly.

Thanks for your help. I tried a few more movies (vob files I believe) and they are all choppy. In an action scene, car chase, the picture became pixeled and not viewable. The audio seemed ok though. I guess will wait for a fix. Do you recommend any other player that would play those type of files.

I have 2 sony smp-n200 players and 1 seagate goflex tv (and had the older version that played exactly like the new goflex tv) and the seagate may play a little more of my older ..mkv files but sometimes with glitches, now the sony does play all new .mkv files and most old, but some it does not play.

They both play .vob files with no problem but the sony is quick, and I purchased one refurb for only 35 and the other sony cost me 50 new. I don't think you can find any now?

I also have a Roku 2 and need to play with that more but I don't think that plays much from what I did get it to play.

Now goflex home (UPNP server) is junk, most files it supplied were choppy, I gave that away, and use a asus RT-AC66R router with a hard drive attached and never had any problems streaming either wifi or wired (I use wired mostly) HD .mkv files or any other either, I highly recommend that router, I do use merlins builds of firmware for it, cause he adds hard drive power saver mode, the HD shuts down after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Now I never used the western digital and others have great things to say about it, but every time I go into a forum I read problems with that also.

But this vidon.me was/is supposed to be my ultimate player, and hopefully it will or they will supply us with new different ones that will. I think/hope they just need to fine tune our vidon.me units to play all these various files perfectly. It would be nice to have a quicker interface but I could live with it as long as it plays every .mkv file and .vob's and most others.

I am hoping for a major first fix soon, I HOPE!
