    Just Got Mine, Need Help

I received my STB on Friday, and have been messing with it all weekend. It does not work very well, and I am wondering if it is something I am doing wrong. First, it tries to update to the latest version, and after it says that it has downloaded, and I hit OK to update, it locks up the machine. I plugged in my external 3.0 TB USB 3.0 WD Book drive, which it DOES see, but it says analyzing at the top, and it said that for about two hours. The machine locks up CONSTANTLY. I have had to hard reset this thing about ten times, just trying to update the firmware. The last lock up, when I restarted the thing, it is now "Downloading backup system start-up file", which it has been doing now for about 30 minutes.
My question is, Am I just doing something wrong? Am I not patient enough? Or are these boxes the nightmare that I am afraid they are? Also, there is NOWHERE in the settings to check the status of the firmware upgrade download. it would be nice if I could SEE what the status was, instead of always thinking it was locked up. BUT, when you press a button on the remote (With new batteries), and NOTHING happens, how do we tell for sure that it is locked up? I unplugged my external drive last time it locked up, and the "Analyzing" went away, but the system was still locked up, and would not respond to any presses on the remote.
A USER MANUAL WOULD BE NICE!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You, Rexxx

Thank You for that, but that manual is about as useless as the one that came in the box... I was hoping for something that would let us know how to use the menus, for example, to set up the system to recognize an external device. I finally got it though, after a few hours. For anyone messing with these, DO NOT HOOK UP AN EXTERNAL DRIVE UNTIL AFTER YOU UPDATE TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE!!! Once I got the .6 firmware on there, everything went much better. I have been loading movie information for about 10 hours now, and it has not locked up, and it is still (successfully so far) loading my movie library...
Fingers crossed that it stays this way...

OK, after all that, it is still really glitchy. It did load all of my movie information on the movies that were NOT in folders, but I only got about half of the ones that WERE in folders (IE: Pirates 1 did show, but not 2,3,or 4). BUT, when I play a movie (All of them are in .avi, mp3 audio, and ALL play fine on a PC) it stalls a LOT, to the point where the audio starts to lag behind by full seconds.... I think I am going to try out one of the WD Live boxes, as people seem to have a lot less problem with those... I will hold on to this, and maybe the next firmware will get it right...
Not very satisfied, at least I got mine free with the lifetime deal... Should have taken the Amazon card...

          Update help

Hopefully one of you guys can help me. I just got mine and for the life of me I can't find how to update it. It's got a wired connection and an IP.

Is there a trick to it, or is there a menu that is staring me in the face that I'm not seeing?

We suspect (not confirmed) that they've pulled down the update on the Internet as it was causing problems.

Otherwise, when it booted up it would tell you that it's available.

I kept playing cause I don't like when technology gets the best of me.

I was hooking mine up wired...decided WTH let's go through the setup wizard in wireless. I see adding a wireless network doesn't work right when adding an SSID or network name they call it (says it needs to be entered when it is). Maybe it does if its unsecured tho, so I ignore and move on. Meanwhile I see the wired NIC is still active on my switch and I got some new screen about creating an account (which I didn't get when selected a wired network setup). I thought this was promising. So it got a little blurry at that point after creating an "account" for something and then I went back to change it to a wired network. I restarted and was flipping through menus and accidentally cancelled out of the network update (was getting frustrated with the slow response and mashing buttons, my beer induced fault). Tried to replicate but couldn't get it back.

So really what is interesting to me is I need to create an account/login to an account when setting it up via wifi, but not wired.... Going through the setup wizard repeatedly showed me that wired config stops after the DHCP/static setup and wireless has extra menus.

I'm having good hopes for this product eventually, but it's kind of shocking how little documentation there is and the state it was released in.
